  1. hi I need to choose one of these schools. Please help UNC, BC, Georgetown Which one is easier to get into?
  2. Hi I have some questions, please share your ideas or experience. I want to apply to some phd programs in US. I do not have many math courses. But i scored 800 Q on GRE. Once I wanted to become an actuary and passed some actuarial tests. Would it be helpful if i mention or report them to the admission. These tests are challenging and might be somewhat related to the phd program. I took tests on Probability, Financial Mathematics, and Financial Economics. And I will choose Financial Economics as one of my fields. thank you
  3. Hi Ivanca thank you very much for the information. I have a code in R, but not able to use it much. I am not proficient in programming. If you are good at programming and R, can you help me in applying that procedure? thank you
  4. thank you asquare I could not find anything related to panel estimation with sqreg. I think it is just extension of qreg in Stata. They explain sqreg sth like that, "sqreg estimates simultaneous-quantile regression. It produces the same coefficients as qreg for each quantile. sqreg obtains a bootstrapped variance-covariance matrix of the estimators that includes between-quantiles blocks. Thus, one can test and construct confidence intervals comparing coefficients describing" If you know the references about sqreg related to panel estimation, can you please give me the link (if it is available online)?
  5. I am using panel data for my project and I want to use quantile regression. Does anybody know how to run quantile regression in panel data? I found the basic version of software in R, but had difficulty in using it. I would also appreciate if somebody more proficient in R could help me how to run this. thank you
  6. if u have GMAT score of 640, you can easily get 780+ on GRE quant., assuming that u did well in quant. part of GMAT. GRE math is much easier than GMAT math. I took both and my GMAT score is 600, GRE quant. is 800.
  7. thank you, whitewinghk I am from one of former Soviet Union countries in Central Asia. My under. university is far from those renowned Korean Universities. I have a US degree. Do I need to take toefl again? If it helps to cover my low verbal in GRE, I may try that option.
  8. thank you econchick06, TruDog advanced math is introduction to proofs. Linear Algebra class was proofs based, but not that rigorous proofs.
  9. Profile: I very much appreciate your opinion about my chances for phd programs. Type of Undergrad: top university in my country (Asia), but not known internationally GPA: Overall: 3.8-3.9, Econ: 3.95, Math: 4.0 Type of Grad: moderate public university, not in the rank of econphd.net and no PhD program GPA: 3.9 GRE: 800 Q, 380 V, 3.5 A (taken before I did my MS econ) Classes: Math: Probability theory (A), Statistics (A), Linear Algebra (A), Probability Models (A), Advanced math (A), Differential eq. (?), Stochastic Processes (?), Mathematical models in finance and investment (?) Econ: int. micro (A), int. macro (A), adv micro (A), adv macro (A), econometrics (A), microeconometrics (A), time series and forecasting (?) quant. methods in econ (A) many more Research Experience: 2 year RA experience in my MS econ program, wrote 1 graduate research project. Teaching Experience: tutoring math, but not TA experience LORs: One from the econ prof (Ph.D. U of Chicago) who advised graduate research project; one from another econ prof (Ph.D. UC Berkeley); one from another econ prof (Ph.D. Florida State U). One of them knows me very well and high on me. He is also well-published. I RAed to another one. The other one is my grad advisor and knows me good. I did well in their classes. SoP & Interests: not yet written. I will mention my research interests. Other: International student Schools I am applying 1) Rutgers U 2) U of Arizona 3) U of New Orleans 4) North Carolina State U 5) Georgia State U 6) Oklahoma State U 7) Clark U 8) SUNY stony brook 9) U of Connecticut Do you guys think my profile is competitive for those schools? Is there any university in my list that you guys recommend not to apply? My verbal GRE is too low. Does it hurt my chances much? I took it before doing my MS econ in US. Since then I improved my verbal skills. Do they consider this? Any advice is much appreciated Thank you
