  1. I have been to this forum several times and I have posted several times in regards to my GRE scores. I am in the unfortunate position of having invested several hours in time and money with tutors and books and all types of prep and I have managed to do worse on the actual GRE than before. I have taken the test twice this summer and I scored a 290 on the Quant in June and 230 on the Quant in July. This Quant score is the only score of importance to my graduate program. I can not seem to get this score higher and it seems that with more preparation all I do is do worse. I need some advice, I have to take that test again by January for my graduate program, and I think I need to just start back at at the basics of math. How long do you think that it will take to learn basic math concepts tested on the GRE in order to gain confidence and obtain a decent score?
  2. I have been preparing for about 5 wks for the GRE quant section (that is the only section that I need to improve in for my grad school). I only need to score 350 on the quant section to get into school because my GPA and verbal and AW scores were great. I have taken the test 3wks ago and only scored 290 with 2wks of preparation. Now I am due to retest in exactly 3wks is it possible for me to obtain a 350 on the GRE with this time frame and at least 2 hours of studying everyday?
  3. Thanks everyone! I am encouraged by all of your suggestions and your help in this area. I have found a tutor and I am not sure of his style but he is said to be exceptional in GRE preparation and other areas of math (Dean of Math Department at a local college). I will begin with a diagnostic of my math ability and we will go from there. I will keep everyone updated and I will post if I am having any further problems on the GRE practice questions. Thanks Again!
  4. Thank you GREkickboxer I didn't find your response patronizing, trust me you could not make me feel any worse than what I feel already. I don't have a learning disability (I have already been tested) I just have some kind of stupid mental block and it is only with math concepts. For as long as I can remember, as long as I was being coached through math problems I have always done well, as soon as the opportunity for me to apply what I knew presented itself I would bomb or only perform sub-par. I can't blame anyone but myself, but this is just terrible for me because I thought that my graduate school would consider other things along with the GRE. I did not have to take the verbal/analytical writing because those skills are above average. It is only my math, I have another opportunity to take the test again in July and I only need to score 350 on the quant. Do you think that with a tutor and more practice that I can achieve a score of 350 on the quant with six wks of preparation? I am grateful for any help that you could send my way.
  5. I am in desperate need of reply. I absolutely can not score above 290 on the GRE math section. My verbal and analytical writing are great. But the math is a thorn in my side. I want to start a Doctoral program in Fall 2007, I have one more time to take the math before August and I do not know how to increase my score to at least 400 before the Fall semester begins. Could someone please send me any suggestions for success. I know that it sounds like I am an underachiever, but I am not trying to be a math wiz or score a perfect score on the GRE all I need to get into my program is 350 because my other scores are acceptable and honestly I will be happy if I can obtain a 350 or 351 just for good measure. Can anyone in the TESTMAGIC forums help me?:(
  6. I just took the quant this morning and i didn't even get out of the 200's. I have studied and tried to brush up on my math and I continuously make low scores. Does anyone know of anything that is math dummy can do to improve her scores? I am in desperate need of help.:(

    Examples

Does anyone have any examples of a 600/500 level quant question?

    Who knows?!...

Who knows how many problems one would need to get correct to score a 350 on the math section of the GRE?
  9. Hello everyone, I am new to this website and forum and I have read many post and I have found them all to be very helpful. I am nearing the date for my GRE. I only need to retest in the quantitative portion because my other scores were acceptable to the graduate program that I want to apply to. Therefore, I only need to make a 350 or better on the quantitative portion to gain admission to my program. My first question is how feasible is this when math is my worse subject? My second question is Has anyone use The GRE for Dummies study book and how did it work for you on the actual test? My third question is does anyone have any last minute study tips to make the concepts stick in my head so that I don't freak out on the actual exam and forget all that I know? Thank you all in advance for your help or suggestions and I look forward to hearing from you!
