  1. Wordsmart published by princeton review? Or something else?
  2. thanks for the tip! etymology seems like it would take a lot longer to memorize, and take more effort, than a picture dictionary. hmm...thoughts?
  3. i saw an ad online for a program...a dictionary with gre vocab paired with photos and mnemonics. has anyone tried this? would this work better than flash cards or is it not worth the extra effort? its $50 usd....a bit pricey. what do you guys think?
  4. ancalagon- eller at arizona has an excellent mis program, as im sure you're aware of. tucson is a good college town too, just enough to do, not too much to distract you. besides the great resources, arizona has a bright and fun student body (as a whole)...and im not just talking about the drinking... it's is my alma mater and i had a great time there :grad:
  5. i found some barrons and princeton review books at the library (not too outdated...they were 2005) and was wondering if i should bother reading them and using the practice tests? has the gre changed much since 2005? i already have a few new editions- i have the princeton review classroom book, as well as barrons frequently used words book, etc. what does everyone think about usage of sightly older prep books?
  6. gre pupil....can you be my mentor :-) and when i get off track you can kick my butt.
  7. thanks for the boost of confidence. it really helps. i'm starting to turn into a stress case over this. i study about 3 hours each day after work but it don't seem to be learning at a fast enough pace. the vocab memorization is not sticking as much as i would like still. i will try and use the flashcards at every free minute, as everyone has suggested. the problem i seem to be having is focus-related,.....being. ....i just can't focus as much as i'd like to. :/
  8. that is excellent news! what is your routine??? how long did you study and how many hours per day avg did you put in to get that amt of increase? i don't doubt that i have the motivation to do this. the only concern i have is time i.e. i need to make productive use of the limited hours i have per day to study, and i also need to figure out how to cram all this material in while still being able to do well at work. any tips will be greatly appreciated!!! esp from those who work full time.
  9. I’m curious to what everyone’s average increase is after prepping? Obviously it will vary depend on prep time, starting score, etc. I’m curious to what is a realistic expectation for me. Here’s the rundown: My first diagnostic test I scored 430q and 470v. I am disappointed, but not beating myself up over it because I have not looked at a standardized test in over 4 years. I am taking the Princeton review classroom course. I work 50 hours a week in a job where I cannot study any of the material. I think I can put in about 17 hours of study time a week (maximum). **Here is my concern: I have studied on and off for a few weeks now, and I’m having a rather difficult time retaining any of the info (vocab especially) because most of my day (my job) does not allow me to exercise that part of my brain. Not only am I short on time, it’s hard to think about vocab words, math problems when I’m dealing with work issues. How realistic is it to strive for a 200 pt increase in each section? My goal is 1300-1400 Will something need to give in order for this to happen? (ie…..my job) I find that most GRE students are not working hectic, long days the way GMAT student’s are….? I don’t think those who study for the gmat memorize 3,000 vocab words?? Please advise.
  10. what do you guys think for anyone's who's taken a class room prep course...they run about 8 weeks long, 8 sessions. do the teachers provide tips, etc that you cannot get from just prepping alone, from the same books?
  11. thanks for that info! i didnt know that about the kaplan guarantee. i'm thinking its still better to go with kaplan bc princeton only guarantees it if i score lower on my actual GRE than my initial test. and what are the chances of that happening? theres no way i wont do better than my initial diagnostic test. kaplan will let me repeat even if i score a lot better.
  12. ive been through both books. i like princeton reviews approach better than kaplans. however, kaplan offers the student the chance to retake the class for free. as far as i know, princeton only allows a shortened, "refresher course" thoughts, anyone?
  13. Best GRE prep course? Princeton, Kaplan...are they worth it? Anyone who's taken the GRE prep courses, what are your thoughts? Are they worth the $1,000+?? I don't want to skimp...and whatever it takes to help me study more thoroughly, and faster...i'll do it. For those who recommend it....what are your thoughts on princeton or kaplan? which is better? Thanks all! :grad:
