  1. Hi all, I realy need your advice: I have been admitted to CS Phd in SUNY at Stony Brook with full financial aid. I have also been admitted to CS MS in Columbia with no financial aid (at least so far). As I am not sure about my intentions for going to a PhD, I am thinking to start with MS, but I have no financial aid from Columbia. Does starting the Phd, and in the worst case leave after ~2 years with a MS in hand sounds reasonable ? Is it acceptable ? Plese advice.
  2. Hi everyone, I am facing a problem and need your advice. I should respond by the end of next week to an admission offer I got for CS PhD, but my favorite university still did not respond with my application decision. I can choose to decline the offer I have and wait for the other university decision, or accept the offer, and if I will later get the offer I am waiting for, decline the first one. I know it is not too polite, but it seems I have no other choice. Please advise.
  3. Has any one got admission decisions from NYU/Columbia for CS Ph.D. , Fall 2004 ?
  4. That depends on the depatement minimum TOEFL score requirements.
  5. Hi, Anyone applying to SUNY at Stony Brook for CS ? I am confused with the Proficiency Requirements form that ask for "USB Equivalent" field. Thanks.
  6. I got reply on this from Stanford saying: "Your unconverted GPA is your GPA as calculated by your school. The unconverted GPA system is the method your school uses to calculate your GPA (e.g. 1-100 scale) The maximum GPA is the highest number a person could earn under that system (e.g. 100). Your major GPA is your grade point average for all the classes relevant to your major. Your math GPA is your grade point average of all the math classes you have taken at the institution concerned." This was realy helpfull to me, and I hope it will help others too.
  7. Is anyone familiar with Stanford application form ? I am required to enter "unconverted GPA", "Max GPA" and "Major GPA". My undergradutae University used 100 as max grade per course and a variable credits per course system. I am not sure what exactly they are asking for.
  8. Thanks for your replies. I have a Bs.c is Math & Computer Science and I have been working in a big software company for the last three years. I will get recommendations from my employees and hopefuly at least one from my former professors (if they can still remember me:) )
  9. I got my GRE : V 370 Q 790 I want to apply to Ph.D program in Computer Science. Does the quantitive part is so bad ? Is it matter so much for international students ? Thanks a lot.
  10. Hi, I am in the process of applying to a Ph.d in Computer Science in the U.S. I need to provide at least 3 recommendations and the problem is that I am more than 3 years working and out of the universiry. Does recommendations from employers count as one from former lectuers ? Since 3 years has passed it seems strange asking proffessors who hardly remember me for recommendations, but from what I understand this is what counts. Please advise.
