  1. I used to have seven employees and yes I was the founder, I developed my business plan and sold it to two investor but keeping the major investement and the general management. Even though I did not have more than one year operating with not so many strucking figures to show I think this experience is the best I had because I achieved many interesting things to tell and handled to keep both my current work and my business very actively. I will have a recommendation from my current supervisor so she will testify I excel in my work. I know those companies do not sound but I have very rich experiences, I am putting emphasys in my international exposure and the early promotions I had. The role I played after the disaster is one of my best cards to show...So what weekness do you find in my profile besides previous WE... I running with my essays and I really want to minimize any flaws. I think english is one of my weeknesses. My toefl and verbal part on the gmat are just below the average of these top BS but how minimize that? I know that i won't have any problem regarding language but How do you see it from your position... Again, thank you very much!
  2. Hi Gmatbong, I am from Peru, I worked for Mexican America Movil subsidiary in Peru (cell phones) for 2.5 years. Since then, I have been working in the cosmetic industry...
  3. Hi, I am from south america, Industrial Engineer, age 26, 4.5 years of work exp by the time I start the mba. In my first years of working experience I had international exposure, later on I worked as Financial Senior Analyst. I developed my own business and I got success in a record time of 4 months but an natural catastrophe destroyed it. I had seven employees reporting to me. I worked and was the owner of my company at the same time. I relished this experience a lot because I was very difficult to maintain high standard in my current work and take care of business simultaneously . I was in top third of my class in University. I joined the basketball team for more than 2 years. When I was University, I was committed in a religious group during a year specially for Christmas. I had a brother who graduated from of Top B-Schools and was an inspiration to me. One of my recommender is a current mba student, I do not know how adcom will take it. He is a former boss an a good friend of mine. I am also in mining industry. I have a mine exploited by a third party but very committed with the supervision. GMAT 710 (Q50,V35) TOEFL 102 today I took it again, and I felt much better vs the first time especially in the speaking part. I guess I will improve my score in 5 points more. I’d really appreciate if you can give me your assessment of my profile. My options are HBS, Wharton and Sloan. Thanks!
  4. Thanks guys. About the questions I remember one really difficult question about geometry that I had to guess. Later, I found DS really tricky. Just one question on probabilities and several questions about theory of numbers but not so difficult. In verbal SC part was more difficult than gmatprep. I had a lot of SC questions, more questions than I expected to have. Math challenges is a 25-pack of tough exams above the level of the real gmat exam. I think doing those (at least 10 exams because I run out of time)really improved my level in that part. You can find them in this page Main Page - GMAT Club. If you do that, don't let the scores intimidate you, they are just good pactice. Ok..that's it.. You'll do well on your exams, I very sure about that.
  5. Hi Everyone, yesterday I took the gmat and finally achieved what I proposed one year ago...to cross the barrier of the 700's. Since I did not participate during my preparation in this forum I think I owe you big time. As a quiet member I could learn a lot from all of you. I really want to thank you all for sharing your way of thinking, your posts, answers and so forth. This is indeed a great forum! Sorry for the mistakes in my writing but I’m doing this from work and things are really heavy around here... I'd like to star my debrief saying that this experience was the most stressing and challenging I ever had. It really pushes you to the limits... Ok..now the main part: I am from south America and my knowledge of English comes from my preparation when I was in high school and from my previous work experience which I had to report and travel to countries where Spanish is not the native language. I started my preparation since October 2006 with some classes of grammar due to I had not practiced my English for a long time before that but at the same time I started my own business from zero and all the activities that it demanded from me were really exhausting. During 10 months I have only assisted to my classes and almost did not study at all in my free time (in fact I did not have any free time at all). In addition to this I was and I am still working for a company so I had to be committed to it from 8:30 and 6:00pm. Anyway, a natural disaster occurred in my country that ruined my business (only temporary) but after that huge event, I decided that it was the opportunity to dedicate full time in my preparation and to have a rest from the business world while things re allocate again to their usual places. September and October were the most important months in my preparation. I decided to practice and practice big time. Not only quantity is important but also quality! You must know why answered wrong and right. On weekends I made the commitment that parties were over temporary (of course I had some days that I enjoyed some parties with my girlfriend but without alcohol). Think about this: You will have plenty of time to celebrate once you pass the exam and of course after you are accepted! I took more than 25 practice test (I do have a track of my exam and scores but not right now so I write the ones I remember) Kaplan Test 1 540 Test 2 560 Test 3 630 Test 4 580 Power prep Test 1 630 Test 2 650 Gmat prep Test 1 - 710 (two weeks before my exam) Test 2 - 570 (6 days before!!!!) I have to say something about this last test: DO NOT EAT MUCH before the day you want to take the exam or a drill...That was my case and I really messed it up. Since I knew the reasons why I scored so poor I wasn't afraid. I really was worried when two days before I had some practice in sentence correction and my accuracy was in 20%!!..can you believe it?...I was totally blocked! In retrospective I think pressure was a very huge factor! So be calm and the most important thing: do not think too much about the exam. Just let it flow naturally. Be concentrated and think you will destroy it piece by piece, question by question. At the end I convinced myself that I was going to do the best I could I with all my effort. I did not think about the score. I just thought that I have a task to do: to beat it slowly and once for all! The day of the exam The night before I went to sleep early (10:30)..A tip: During my prep I took vitamins (B,C specially) so I did not got the flu (very common is this time of the year) I quick Coca cola (I used to drink 1 letter per day!) and I started to eat more healthy. I had a better sleep and I that allowed me to wake up early and study for 1.5 hour before going to work. At night I was sleepy so I had to study at least in the day! I was scheduled to 8:30 am so I woke up early at 5:30..read some AWA examples and templates, had a light breakfast and drove to the test center. I arrived 30 minutes later and I waited with a friendly girl. I found that she was trying again after 20 days...another tip: Register early for the exam (at least with two months in advanced. In my country only two machines were available and thus only two exams per day is allowed (That's outrageous!)...so right now is overbooked till end of January so that was another factor of pressure. I knew that if I had gotten a low score I would have had to travel to another country to take the exam. At that time I did not think about anything but the exam and the strategy that I had to follow... After filling all the procedures I started...AWA was as I was expected but almost run out of time in the analysis of the argument. Anyway…the first break. I had a little chocolate, drunk some water, went to the bath and started the math part. The first question was easy but I could only heard the sound of my heart pounding...I was nervous...I did it right and went to another. I had a very good pace and earned time in easy ones and spend more time in tricky ones (DS questions were a lot trickier than the ones I practiced)..When I reached to question 22 I had an impossible geometry question. I had to guessed it and continue...Probabilities were my weak point and I received a question but an easy one. Finally I reached to q37 with two minutes and finished that part. Another break, another chocolate and water..went to bath..and started the verbal section. The first question was a SC and the second and the third. I expected a reading at q4 but I got it at q8 and was an easy one with no need to use the scroll bar...continued and got more SC. In fact I had few CR but anyway...for a moment I was blocked but I manage to keep going repeating to myself (ok let go to the next, and the next and the next). In all SC the options reduced to two but they were very similar, so was very difficult to pick one immediately. When I got to q 40 my heart start pounding faster knowing that I was just about to finished the exam and have my scores in few minutes...I finished the exam with 10 seconds to the end and that was it...Finally ended I answer the stupid questions and I saw 710..I was relief!!! I know that I have the potential to score more but that was enough for me.. I am very happy with that score and now thinking about my apps. Everybody has the potential to score more than 700…It just a matter of practice, rest and attitude... Materials used TM, Kaplan tests, OG 10th, Power prep, Gmat prep, PR, 800 Score, ETS sets, math challenges, Arco. I did not prepare math since I come from a University where math was very tough (I took 6 math courses during my first 3 years) Completed OG 10th...very good practice. Kaplan: Good to improve your RC...its way of scoring just sucks. 800 score: Math too easy Math challenges: Very useful. I did 10 exams and 3 the last 3 days. They are 25..and a great tool to improve your score. Test magic: Excellent forum in SC and just finished the gmat...very good experiences.. Well that's all...I better get back to work...Good luck to everyone...You can do it!...
