  1. No, it's completely OK at this time. I've done this with 4 schools and they all were very polite and helpful with their answers.
  2. I think it took place on the 5th this month... There's a thread of this year's visit day there, and some fellow TMers attended it and posted their comments. EDIT: I found the link http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-economics/146384-arizona-recruit-day.html

  5. Wow, hey people cheer up! I know it really sucks at this point having nothing in our hands, but come on, we are every bit as worthy now as we were before the application period started. There are many reasons by one can get shut out, and I'm betting that for members in this forum none of them includes not being smart enough. The process is noisy, sometimes you might need another shot to get an offer. Sometimes one underestimates the competitiveness (sp?) of it, as I did a little in my case, so you end up aiming too high. Sometimes you have some really ugly spots on your profile that you need to make up for, as I now know I have to. Sometimes the only part of the application that you have no direct control over, the LORs, end up not being what you'd have expected before applying. Or sometimes you just needed a little bit more luck. And the list can go on, but you get the idea. To sum up, there may be lots of reasons for being shut out and none of them have to be related to one's capacity to succeed in a PhD or to do research. So don't let rejections hit your self-steem so hard. When this is over, the ones who get shut out will have to see what factors contributed the more to the outcome and reasses their next moves accordingly as many successful applicants have done in the past. But there's no reason to feel dimished by being rejected everywhere. If doing a PhD is what you really want, then if you persevere you'll get it. You've been smart enough to get to this point, there's no reason why you can't get to next one.
  6. I got this email from them regarding my app status: Dear Anxious Applicant Thank you for your note. Our admission committee has not yet made a decision on your Ph.D. in Economics application. I am guessing that you might hear back within two weeks. We appreciate your patience. Best Two weeks??? That smells like rejection to me. Anyway, I can't do anything but keep on waiting (sigh)
  7. Thanks guys for all the comments. I sent emails about my status to all silent schools and found out that I'm already out of UT, which was expected. Four to go and this nightmare is over, one way or the other. I want this period of uncertainty to end and set my future plans soon.
  8. Thanks for the info. Yes, they are long shots at this point. Arizona has also sent rejections, so this gives me some little hope of being in some kind of waitlist (glass half-full version of the applications limbo).
  9. Hi guys, I've been relatively away from the forums (which was both good and bad) for the last 2 weeks, because I was travelling. The thing is, I'm yet to hear something from USC, UC Irvine, OSU, UT Austin and U Arizona. I'm sure that most of them are rejections at this point for sure but I still need to know. Do you think it's OK at this time to e-mail them and ask them about my status? Do you think I can get informative answers? Does anybody know something about these schools? I'll keep travelling for the next 10 days and I'm going to be away from the Internet for that time and it will really ease my mind to know the final outcome of this process, if that's possible at this time. Any comments are really appreciated! Thanks!
  10. It still sound pretty limbo-ish to me :P

  12. I told you things were going to turn out fine. Congrats.
  13. To Mc Donald's: Hey I got shut out And it looks pathetic But hereĀ“s my CV So employ me maybe Watcha think? I guess I'm discovering my true vocation here ;)
  14. Even though I knew I wouldn't make it to U Mich, it still hurts. (Assuming implicit rejection here, no need to panic people)
  15. If we actually are, then yes, they should. But most schools send rejections after sending acceptances, and some of them several weeks apart. But there have been some people rejected by USC this season so I guess we are either in some kind of waitlist or some second round of rejections/admissions. In this case no news is good news.
  16. Too generic to tell. One of the reasons I didn't recommend you to email them is that you were likely going to get a generic and cryptic response...like the one you got. My next piece of advice is don't try to read a particular answer out of it.
  17. Yeah, I got the same response. But they mispelled my name.
  18. Hey, I'm on the same boat as you and I'll wait and I recommend that you do the same. Just hang two more weeks, if by then there are no news, then yes by all means do email them. But for now, try to relax a bit, you have waited some months now, you can wait two more weeks. EDIT: Too late I guess.
  19. Dear Applicant, We regret to inform you that we cannot give you admission to our program this year. However, we assure you that we have carefully evaluated your application before deciding that you suck. Each year we receive a lot of applicants with profiles as laughable as yours, so the problem was to determine the extent to which you really sucked. Please bear in mind that our decision on your application in no way reflects on your ability to be a successful academic economist. It is just not going to happen through our program. Feel free to reapply next year as we need your money to pay for summer expenses. Best wishes, XXX Not-good-for-us Economics Department
  20. Have you been reading my rejection letters???? ;) He only applied to T10, which is risky even for the best candidates.
  21. Or...They could be releasing decisions based on the zodiac signs! Let's see...to all the Pisces: has anyone of you got a decision yet????
  22. Hey, don't be so quick to claim your price dear, you are running up against me ;)
  23. Oh Mar Got! I'd never read that board until now... I didn't know there was such a big number of idiots in the profession really. I hope it's not gonna be TM-person ----> Econ PhD ----> EJMR-"person" , if it is, I don't want to take the PhD route anymore! :)
  24. Congrats! Dude, you are a serious contender for the 2013 Antichron award ;)
