  1. As far as I was told, those cars "dont do much and Never start working" . . . lol:D
  2. Contrary to many posts on this thread I suggest you get a Dell Inspiron series laptop. They have the best possible price/quality ratio. I work for a company as a web developer and we have about 20 Dell laptops and desktops of various ages (from brand new to 6 y.o.). No problems whatsoever. Of course, there are some minor failures, but as is with any piece of machinery or equipment, you cant expect it to work forever (except if you are employed by NASA). Also, I strongly dissuade you from going after a HP or Compaq laptop. HP should have never gone into the laptop market. Printers is their strongest point. As for their laptops, they have some mass defects, which is confirmed by my personal experience amplified by that of my friends and colleagues. Also, laptops by Apple, Toshiba and Sony are great quality. However, they are priced higher than Dell. Thus, if funds permit break down and buy one of those. In my opinion, you will not regret. P.S. As always there are exceptions to every rule and aberrations from every trend. Top line laptop can fail and a cheap one can last you for ages. Maintenance and care are also important.
  3. DEll. Best Price / Quality ratio IMHO. The most recent Inspiron model looks amazing, design is very cool. Sony, Toshiba, and Apple are great as well but they are priced substantially higher. P.S. I do not want to offend any posters but I suggest you dont buy HP laptops. Two of my close friends bought HP's within the last year and had to return them for different technical reasons. HP should stick to printers only (they have a comparative advantage in those . . .lol).
  4. I am not able to access the file because I dont have enough posts yet. Atl least that is what it says. Any way you can pool out and post the books info?
  5. Ok. Thanks a lot. Greatly appreciate the sharing.
  6. Thanks for the reply. Let me be more clear. I am currently reading the undergrad econometrics by Dennis Halcoussis and its not challenging enough for me. For instance, on many occasions instead of explaining a method or technique it would just say "the details of this method are presented in advanced courses". Its really frustrating because most of the time it feels that its possibly omitting the most interesting topic. Also, it has very few appendix sections with derivations. Coincidentally, I find those extremely interesting as well. So, I guess I am looking for an advice on which text to get to self study the advanced econometrics.
  7. Could someone post what Econometrics texts are used in core classes (first and second year) of Econ Ph.D programs. Also, if your experience permits please express the preferences and opinions. Thanks.
  8. As an international student, you are not required to pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. In case you accept the offer, make sure you are only subtracted the Federal and State Income Tax. With 30000 a year, you ll probably pay around 15-17%. If you go about it the right way, you will be getting that back every April.
  9. Are you asking a question? Looking for suggestions? Comments? Please, clarify.
  10. I see your point. P.S. Once again, take no offense by my previous comment.
  11. The comment represents a pure amazement of the author by the quoted statement. Offense and sarcasm were neither intended nor implied.
  12. so you consider yale to be one of the top 5 econ programs . . .interesting . . . .
  13. This is the best post I have come across on this forum. :D
  14. Also, may I suggest we play using chessmaniac.com . Its a much better system (I gave up yahoo a few months ago because it constantly glitched). You can actually create a tournament, roster, set up move intervals, etc. Gives you a lot more features.
