  1. Hi all, I have two questions that I need help with below and would appreciate all the input. NOTE: ^ means exponent 1) If (1/5)^m (1/4)^18= 1/2(10)^35 then m= (a) 17 (b) 18 © 34 (d) 35 (e) 36 The answer is 35. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2)For which of the following functions f is f(x)= (1-x) for all x? (a) f(x)=1-x (b) f(x)=1-x^2 © f(x)=x^2-(1-x)^2 (d) f(x) =x^2(1-x)^2 (e) f(x)=x/1-x The answer is D
  2. Hi, any help would be appreciative with the problem below. AMOUNT OF BACTERIA PRESENT Time Amount 1:00pm 10g 4:00pm x g 7:00pm 14.4g Data for a certain science experiement are given. If the amount of bacteria given increased by the same fraction during each of the two 3 hour periods given how many grams of bacteria would be present at 4pm. (1) 12.0 (2) 12.1 (3) 12.2 (4) 12.3 (5) 12.4 The answer is 12 and I came up with 12.2 by subtracting 14.4- 10=4.4/2= 12.2.
  3. I know this problem isn't as hard as Im making it out too be, but why did you multiple the equation by 2. I see how to do it but don't understand why. Your help is greatly appreciated.
  4. If 9 is a factor of 2x, then which of the following may not be an integer? (1) 6x/54+ 2x/3 (2) 4x-18/9 (3) 2x+27/9 (4) 81-4x^2/81 (5) 2x-3/3 The answer is (1) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Both 5^2 and 3^3 are factors of n x 2^5 x 6^2 x 7^3 where n is positive integer. What is the smallest possible value of n? (1) 25 (2) 27 (3) 45 (4) 75 (5) 125 The answer is (4) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- x- 2/3^7-2/3^8-2/3^9=1/3^9 What is the value of x (1) 2/3^4 (2) 2/3^5 (3) 1/3^5 (4) 1/3^6 (5) 2/3^10 The answer is (4) --------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5. All, I've listed several problems with numbers as references that I could use help on with shortcuts or easiest methods to solve. I appreciate everyones help. 1) Which of the following fractions has the greatist value (A) 6/(2^2)(5^2) (B) 1/(2^3)(5^2) © 28/(2^2)(5^3) (D) 62/(2^3)(5^3) (E) 122/(2^4)(5^3) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) What is the remainder of 9^23/10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) What is the sum of the integers from 10 through 50 inclusive? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks
  6. All- I posted the problem below a couple of days ago. I know how to do step one, but I am lost getting to step two. Can someone please explain 5^21 x 4^11= 2 x 10^n (Original problem) 5^21 x 2^22= 2 x 10^n (step 2) 10^21 x 2 = 2 x 10^n (step 3) How do you get from step 2 (5^21) to step 3 (10^21)
  7. aparajita0908- Thanks for that shortcut. I did not get the same answer as you in the 30!/12^x problem. Can you show me how you got 13. I really appreciate your detailed answer.
  8. What is the largest integer value value of x that makes 30!/3^x an integer the answer is 14 Please help
  9. Thanks guys for all your help I know how to get the second step 5^21 x 2^22= 2 x 10^n how do you get from the earlier step to this one (10^21 x 2 = 2 x 10^n) Thanks! 5^21 x 2^22 = 2 x 10^n
  10. The problem below appeared on a practice test of mine and I don't know how to solve. I would really appreciate some help 5^21 x 4^11= 2 x 10^n Thanks
  11. .36 x 10^a/.09 x 10^b= 4 x 10^5 a-b= I know you (1) multiple .36 by 10^2 and (2) multiple .09 by 10^2 I am lost from here. Please help.
