  1. Always great to hear various opinions! I believe the discussion, private or on the board, shows that ppl's care and expectation to cornell's program. I have to say, (maybe because of my insufficient experience) I still believe in individual perspective and endeavor. Getting a job or not depends on a person's career goal, job market paper, publication quality, network, bla bla~~~ All these factors are greatly related with the individual perspective and efforts. The school is then more like a platform of whose resources its students can take advantages. Though geographically cornell does not have advantage over its counterparts, I think it does provide great human resources and network to places outside ithaca, right!? Another thing to note, is that: University of Michigan has similar disadvantaged location as cornell, but its Economics placement looks great on their website. UPenn locates nice and has a well ranked Economics department, but its placement seems no better or even worse than UMich and Boston Univ. Assuming (also most likely in real) faculty and school faciliates are similar, then why job market results appear so different? I guess it is because of the students ourselves, how and to what extent we are able to take advantage of the place where we already are for the aim of our career goal. Well, the above is just my personal thoughts, maybe quite ideal due to my insufficient experience, so welcome your arguments. btw, I am going to cornell this fall, and look forward to know appl2007 and gsm33 there :) ! It is great to have you two on this topic.
  2. appl2007, are u in cornell econ? feel sad to hear that... especially that "and one was jobless for a while in the past three years"
  3. Thank you, arshadrahman25! It helps =) yet just look at BU 2008's placement~~~ But anyway I gonna decide today, and I think I do love cornell even though bla bla~~~ en, never assume im rational. any other comments to go?
  4. My interest is in international economics (development, technology, MNE, etc.), and feel like a career in international institutes or maybe academia. I got in Cornell Applied Econ with funding, and admission without funding to Boston U and GTU both straight Econ depts. All three have great faculty in my interested field above, but it seems that BU and GTU have better placements in my desired working places (especially BU) and both are straight Econ (broader options in future research or maybe job markets). However, Cornell is such an attrative ivy with full funding plus ppl there are really nice, though the location is a bit far away from lots of spots~~~ Which one do you think will be a better choice? Why? Thanks in advance!
