  1. So you don't think the mid ninties percentile Verbal will help much? Even at a lower school? On business week South Carolina ranked just out of thier listing. There are a few schools lower that I like as well. I'm not aiming for the stars, just for somwhere I can learn and work up some good research.
  2. Well, I don't doubt my recommenders wrote good letters for me, and I'm getting into some math classes as we speak. Do you really think a need a new GRE? I'm not aiming for top tier or anything. Schools more like LSU / Memphis / South Carolina is more of my focus. You think after I pull down some math I'll have a good shot?
  3. I applied to a bundle of schools, ranging from top to just OK. One of em is forwarding my application to 09 (I only finished that Application in Late Feb O_o) because they think I'm pretty solid. Unfortunaly, the very first app I got out was in december. Ouch, I know. I already have a few 09 ones in, so mabey that will help.
  4. Well, I'm definatly NOT going for finance. ^_^ Never liked the stuff! Just general management I think. You think I have a chance for 09?
  5. DEGREE: Major Bussiness, Minor Accounting GPA: 4.0 (Small Virgina Undergrad School) GRE: 730 Math, 640 Verbal WORK: 2.5 Years with a financial services group. TEACHING: I've actualy taught part time for one class at my old college (Intro to Business) AWARDS: Lots of random achievement awards, lol. A couple are cool like best in department. Well, I'm aiming for somthing like South Carolina (personal reasons). I think I aimed too high and applied too late last year. You think I have a shot at getting somwhere? I don't need much prestige. So I get started applying again?
  6. Ok, I think I applied too late and to too high up schools last time... I'm definatly not giving up, though!!!! One school I applied to gave me an application defferment to the 09 year, so I think I MIGHT be ok, but it's a small school, and nothing is sure. I would really like to make it to South Carolina for personal reasons... Do you think I'm fit for that? I'm taking some classes at a local university while still working to shore up some of my weaknesses too. I'm also tutoring this fall and spring. Do you think I have a shot? Do you think I should start applying again? I don't really care if I don't get a great PhD. I just want SOME Phd ^_^ Oh, and do most schools my recommenders resend letters if I applyed last time around? I don't want to bug them if I don't have to!
  7. Well, I pretty much applied to alot of differnet schools ^_^ Many of em too good for me! (Michigan State, UNC, Purdue, Etc...etc...) I'm alot more fitting for a step down. But thats not too bad IMHO. One of the lower ones is giving me a good look in this application cycle (09). I'm hoping for the best. Oh, and I applied to mostly Business Management, with some departures. And unfortunatly, I don't have too much math. I only have my foot in the door in calculus, really. I think I'll sneak in some math and hope I get in for 09.
  8. DEGREE: Major Bussiness, Minor Accounting GPA: 4.0 (Small Virgina Undergrad School) GRE: 730 Math, 640 Verbal WORK: 2.5 Years with a financial servics group. TEACHING: I've actualy taught part time for one class at my old college (Intro to Business) AWARDS: Lots of random achievment awards lol. A couple are cool like best in department. I applied to 16 schools, but I probably should have applied to a few more low down ones. After discussing the desicions, I got the responses that there are some classes in math and stats I really need. Either that or an MBA would put me in good stead. I know my math is a bit low, but I'm going for Business, not finance/econ. One of the lower choices did give me an application defferal for next year and has outright said "I think you will be a strong candidate next year, keep in touch". I won't give up! in 2009 I will zoom by!
  9. I guess the news isn't all bad, though. I was able to manuver my way into 3 good situations. One: I was able to talk with some faculty members and learn my weaknesses, and I got my face out there. Two: I was able to manuver my way into two choices for graduate school (masters/MBA). I just have to decide which one if any. Three: I got an admission defferal to next year (they just want me to send an updated resume for the next cycle, that HAS to be good news, right?) I've got to say, I'm sort of peeved that 3 schools (of 16) never responded. It's just bad manners, ya know? I'm man enough to admit I lost the first battle, but with my age and experience I never was TOO optimistic. At least I will be able to work towards a PhD, even if I can't work IN a PhD. Anyone else's quest for a PhD end in without an end this year? I guess we just have to keep strong...
  10. "I feel the same way....it's a huge change for me as well. I've been heavily recruited for jobs and I've always had doors open for me because of my accomplishments in undergrad....it's an adjustment to go from that to complete rejection from these schools. I'm still optimistic something will work out...although one of my top choice schools told me i'd know something in 2 to 3 weeks...and today marks 3 weeks with no word..." I make alot now, but I've actualy gotten offers from 2 others places (work related) that I didnt even apply too >_ Why can the schools be the same O_o ? I'm still planning to offer to pay my way at some of the cheaper ones (I'm an NC resident fro two years, so I'd get instate tution for UNC, right?). At the very least, I have to try my best!!! I want fall 08! "CDARK...what area will you be getting your PhD in?" Business management. No finance or Econ for me thank you ^_^
  11. I bet you already got accepted Live4today!! I'm sorry to be negative. one of my safer schools (south carolina) accepted people as late as may last year, but it's hard to be rejected... I'm used to everyone wanting me at work and school... Its a reall change ya know? I guess its a valuable experience, though. But Man, It still sucks... I was my class president (said to be the most active in history!), Student of the year, etc... Its a change...
  12. I'm so jealous of you Doubtful... One of my top choices isn't top ten, but I'd love to go there... Wish me luck... I'm glad your in. My fall is so uncertain right now it's killing me. I'm the kind of guy who plans everything far in advance, and not knowing is making this the least confortable time in my life!
  13. "the school I'm most excited about is in that group." Me too. its close to where I live, and its just a great place. It would take some doing with an almost hour long commute, but it probabaly would save me money (though with gas as it is, I'm not so sure). Let all hope & Pray for the best! I hope we all get seated somwhere! At least I'm not alone in my sorrow.
  14. "10 schools and received 5 rejections so far" Actually, I appied to 16... And I've yet to hear from ANY of the lesser ones. is it like schools like South Carolina to wait? I have hope in my heart, but I just don't know anymore... Man wil I be depressed if I don't make it! I'd wager my lifes fortune on my chances (I'm totaly gonna try asking if I can come self funded at a couple of em) of success. All of my acedemic experiences have been awsome (I have taught one class, and I have a 4.0 GPA), and I know if they took me I'd make them proud...
  15. Well, I've only heard from 6 schools, and all of them were somwhat of a reach, but its so late in the game I'm begining to think even my fall backs like South Carolina are doomed. Is it over? Tell it to me striaght. I don't just want to be sitting around hoping frutlessly. I still have many schools to hear back from, but is it all going to be bad news at this late in the game? Help me! I'm really feeling the pressure now!
  16. Thanks for the confidence ^_^ I'd like to go to UNC... Badly. I'd seriously be willing to pay my way. I have a small history there (nothing to help with admissions unfortunatly), and I'd seriously love to spend half a decade there!
  17. So if finance has picked would management have as well? I applied there...
  18. Well, I've goten some rejections *sigh* but only about a third of where I've applied, so I hevnt given up. You think I have a chance at my sounthern schools UNC, South Carolina, or LSU? Thanks. Man this is painful. I'm doubting I'll make it now... Give me hope ^_^
  19. I'm sorta underqualified, but I just realized somthing rather cool. I'm related to somone involved in the medical department (deceased or I would ahve known sooner). Who knows, mabey it will help ^_^ Is no news bad news, or are they a bit slow?
  20. Out of curiousity... I've heard alot of people are rejected on the basis that there isn't enough funding. I know those are form letters, but has anyone ever tried saying: "Ok, I've got 65,000 dollars and I can come anyway?" If I fail to make it, do you think thats worth a try? I'm 100% willing to invest my small fortune! I'm curious if anyone else has ever tried this.
  21. I'm not aiming for finance or Econ. I hope that makes it easier on me. I hope I don't have to take that test again... But We shall see!
  22. Well, I gave my Letter writers My Resume & a Generic statement of purpose so they could tie their letters into mine. All 3 knew me really well, so thats all I did.
  23. "Have you heard back from any programs?" Sort of. I've been contacted to awnser some things, but there definatly nothing sure. Thats what I need. My life's plans will change drastically if I'm accepted, so I'll need to work on ALOT of things! "Seriously, how did you do 16 apps? Four nearly killed me." Every night after work for one week+weekend. It was PAINFUL! Lucky I have nice reccomenders (I should get glowing reveiws... At least for the first few, lol). I can't belive they tolerated me... Man, it was brutal. I just hope the massive time (and money) investment pays off!
  24. "Keep checking online status, if the school did online apps." Really? This works? I thought US Mail is the only way to send an Accpetance? I've checked em all to see if they have all my data (and they do), but can they say more? I think 13 are fully online (some needed mail like Maryland). Man It will be annoying to check those if I have to!
  25. So you think my profile might hold up? Its not perfect, but its not TOO bad. I'm really hoping for a mid level school! Also, I havent kept it a secret that I make good money (probabaly better than I'll make after graduation...), and on a couple high tier applications (Duke comes to mind), I actually checked that I would come without aid, and that I had 65,000 in the bank to help myslef along. You think that might help? I am willing to spend it ALL. I might regret that later...
