  2. thanks, tinobulger, really appreciate your help.
  3. and for the question, it doesn't make any sense to choose ©. IMHO: the sentence should looks like: It is (gravity that pulls object toward the earth), the whole clause is an object.
  4. Acutally, I got the same problem in the exam, but you may find out that very often the first choice(maybe it is the inspiration) you made is correct, I think we should check it patiently.
  5. Economists generally feel nervous when the inflation rate rises 4 percent because it signals some imbalance in the economy. phrase underlined "4 percent" should be "by 4 percent" but I read another sentence: Scientists know that the world's oceans have risen an average of 6 inches on the past 100 years. The answer is (d), I think it should be "in " or "over", but I think that the choice © is wrong because of the above example, it should be "by an average....." Anyone help me with this, thanks.
  6. thanks anyway, I found the question 28 in one of the TOEFL reference websites, maybe they just make it wrong. you are doing a good job in TOEFL grammar, aren't you, I don't even notice that furniture is an uncountable noun.;)

  9. IMHP: I think the sentence should be sound like this: Avalanches are one of the greatest hazards (which was faced by) winter travellers in mountains that is why I think the word "facing" is wrong, because it is human who will meet the avalanches, not the avalanches meet human. and I also found "in the moutains" is correct too, because, we can't just drill into the moutain to meet the avalanches,:p
  10. Thanks so much for you kind help! I now got it.

Could anyone tell me which is wrong, because I think that "instrument" should be "instruments", but the correct answer is (b). Thanks for the help!!!!!
  12. IMHO, the answer should be (a), as the subordinate clause "the fact that animal are self conscious" is the subject of the whole sentence. that is : (the fact that animal are self conscious) was not known to scientists until Gallup's famous experiments in 1970 with Chimpanzees.
  13. but I think the answer should be © , "facing" change to "faced by"
