  1. You may have already read this, if you have looked at the information on IA State's website. But since I was at one point looking into IA State's program I thought I would relay this information. This is taken from IA State's M.S. Placement info "Approximately 25% of M.S. program enrollees upgrade to the department's Ph.D. program before finishing the M.S. degree. Among those who complete the degree requirements, about a third enroll in Ph.D. programs elsewhere. (Recent graduates have entered Ph.D. programs at Pennsylvania, Columbia, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin.)" I don't know how recent this info is, but these are pretty good placements; all are in the top 20. Good luck
  2. This is odd. I have a friend in the program who said that they received an extremely high number of applications this year. However, I have yet to see a single person even receive a rejection (though a few have received acceptances). You would think they would at least notify the initial pool of rejected applicants. I guess they must do things differently.
  3. Type of undergrad: Small private university in Nebraska Major: Economics with a minor in mathematics GPA: 4.0 Type of Grad: none GRE: Q760, V530, AWA 5.0 Math Courses: Calc I-II, Linear Algebra, Diff EQ, Intro to Analysis, Stats Econ Courses: All that were offered (note: no grad available) Other Courses: 2 directed independent econometrics courses Letters of Recommendation: 2 from relatively unknown econ proffs, 1 semi-well known in econ Research Experience: Two independent research projects, one pending publication Teaching Experience: Just some tutoring Research Interests: IO or health economics SOP: Discussed research I had completed What I would have done differently: Should have applied more broadly and included more reach schools. Also should have taken more math and made it a major. Practice for GRE. Results Acceptances: Iowa ($$), Iowa State ($$), Kansas State ($$), UNL (?) Waiting list: None Rejections: None Pending: Wyoming, WUSTL
  4. Regarding the terms of the contract. I have searched, but I cannot find the specific terms. All that was specifically on the letter I signed said that the University considered it binding. However, how likely is it that the university would pursue legal action?
  5. About two weeks ago I accepted an offer from Iowa State university into their Economics M.S. program. Even though I had planned on entering a Ph.D. program, my fiance is currently finishing med school so I opted for a M.S. program within proximity of her. This week I received a really good offer from the University of Iowa's Ph.D program. Although this is not my dream school, it is a fairly good program located in a good area (for me). I am now starting to second guess my decision given that I have no interest in Ag Econ (ISU's forte) and kinda want to start the Ph.D. track. So my question is if it is possible to back out of my previously accepted offer? And if so, what is the best way to approach it? In other words has anyone else done this and who are the best people to contact (head of the dept., dept. secretary, etc.) Thanks for the help, it is greatly appreciated. Aaron
