seems like all people would say UIUC.... hmm...but the research at UCSD is interesting...

I have the same question. How would you choose between UCSD and UIUC?

Hi all. I am new to this forum. I am wondering if I can get some advices here. I have got admitted by UCSD and UIUC mechanical engineering graduate school. So, I have to choose which to go. According to USnews, UIUC ranked 5th in mechanical engineering while UCSD ranked 20th. So, i shall go for UIUC according to this ranking. But what make me difficult is that I am seemingly more interested in the research at UCSD. So... Can I know what guys think about these two schools? Are they in the same tier? I mean, would it make a big difference between a PhD from UCSD and UIUC?
