  2. Queen.. I came back back after 3-4 days and saw a good news and a bad.. Rockerz 750 was good and ur 620 was bad.. Hey I have seen many of posts and was impressed...Dont go down..You have enough time for apps.. Retake the GMAT as soon as possible as ur flow wont be lost,.. You were doing Good .... Seriously would say come out of it and start preparing... Best of luck for ur next GMAT score
  3. Congratulations Rockerz.. I was waiting for this.....750 is awesome dude...
  4. Hey Tushar ,Congrats on ur achievement and best of luck for all ur application procedures..
  5. I took my GMAT on 16th Aug and scored 720(50Q,38V) AWA-6. Background : I have a work-ex of 22 months in one of the leading MNCs in India. I completed my Engineering from one of the premier institutes in India with an above average GPA of 8.2/10. My academeic track record has been good throughout my career(Scored above 85% most of the times). I have achievements in certain extracurricular activities like organizing national level fests being front-runner for same, certifications in financial markets(My interest is in Finance) to name a few,but somehow I feel that I cannot boast of them. As my work-ex is 22 months,is that a hinderance in getting an addmission. I was looking into the requirements ISB and it had a requirement of 4-5 years work-ex. How can I improve my profile so that I can apply in the second round of ISB Would be grateful if the above querries are resolved
  6. I completed the 1000 SC, ya there are many questions in 1000 SC for which even I found the OA to be wrong... But man Testmagic rocks in that case... Any time I was confused I put up a new thread or searched the previous one..It helped... The last two weeks...even i was tensed in this phase.. Well for the first week I would say go for practice ... If you have not completed the 1000SC then complete it first.. search the previous threads if you could find any new questions...I feel this is the most crucial period for you... For the last week I would say concentrate on basics, dont do anything new.. Complete the OG 10 and 11 thorougly(especially OG 11 coz the explanations are good there... and most question in the actual GMAT are similar) Read all the notes you have referred to... last week its a caution...dont do anything new.. even a simple mistake would shatter your confidence..
  7. 1000 CR is not completely off the track....Only the LSAT part is out of it,.. The gmat part is quite good... KAPLAN premiere is good... But i Liked the Kaplan 800 CRs a lot..
  8. Hi David, I took my GMAT on 16th Aug and scored 720(50Q,38V) AWA-6. Querries: 1) I want to join a university may be around June 2009. So how can I improve my domain,Like what activities should I persue which would add to my profile or increase my Extra-curricular activities count. 2) What are the chances of getting a scholarship if I persue my MBA in a US university? I would be trying for the top 15-20 universities as you could see I have a decent score. 3) My work-ex is 22 months,is that a hinderance in getting an addmission. I was looking into the requirements of most of the universities like Carnegie, Perdue, NUS,Singapore, Nanyang Singapore, ISB, India etc to name few and most of them had a requirement of 4-5 years work-ex. Would be grateful if the above querries are resolved. Regards Sourav, India
  9. Thanks a lot friend for ur wishes.. I already cited that with a lot of practice I made SC my strong point.... So I was comfortable with it... Seriously speaking spent at max 1 min for a SC...I was actually afraid of some CRs so alloted a bit more time in same... Well I would reiterate that try and spend more time for at least the first 12 questions... This not only improves your score...but is surely a confidence builder Now for an RC part... I usually take 2-3 mins to read the passage thoroughly...and then for 4 question RC would take around 3 more minutes...But seriously speaking all strategies in RC will fail once a tough RC is shot.. CR --> The best thing you can do is to look into the question... This helps you build a map... while reading a CR you can visualize what you want... Regards Sourav
  10. Just recieved my AWA score.. Scored a 6 in Same....
  11. See GMAT archive is a set of tricky questions... The GMAT quant level has improved over the last few years that is what I feel... PS question are quite easy I feel but The DS questions really need a presence of mind.. I will give you an example.. Is X=Y? A) X = |Y| B) Y = |X| This looks like an easy question but...actually it needs a a bit presence of mind... Secondly one reason I usually made mistakes was that I jumped into conclusions for DS questions... Try not to do that... Kaplan 800 is like OK for quant in the last stages.. Like you said you have three weeks left I would suggest that complete the OG once again now...Dont make it a thorough completion.. but just complete it.... And just mark all the questions which you gt wrong...or which you found tricky ... And then in the last week just have a look at these questions... Bout the time part... I did my first 15 question slowly....in about 30 min... coz these are the one which decide your 700 score.... Make sure that none of these get incorrect... and then gain a bit of pace...and give an extra amount of time for DS... I had around 3 minutes left in the quant section...
  12. Hi even I m looking forward to ISB... Scored a decet 720 in GMAT.. Have 2 yrs work ex in IT @Samrat ---> Can you please specify the extra curricular activities you just mentioned
  13. I hope this one helps... I divided it into two parts .. The second one is in the next post
  14. If any help required in any topic...or you are unable to find softcopies of certain section.. Just leave a message here I ll attach the same in this forum or will mail you...
  15. OG is the best source for anything...Best explanations and the replica of what you are going to get in the Main exam.. I more suggestion I would like to add ...though 1000 CR is a great compilation of CRs but the LSAT CRs are nowhere near to GMAT CR...the reason for this is you dont get numerical CR so often in GMAT...and the level of difficulty is such that it checks your Analyzing skils.. I feel LSAT CRS would become easier if you complete the Powerscore Bible and have a set of formulas for solving a CR but GMAT CRs are quite different, You just need to have an anlytical mind for same...which comes just with a lot of practice,, Try and compare the OG CR and the LSAT CR ...you would find the differences
  16. Thanks Bholebaba and Dieghard... As I said even I was expecting around 750 coz most of the tests I took I got around 730..And the worst part was I scored lower in Quant around 46-49. But its all about the D-day buddy... Just one bad question makes you nervous and you lose track.. But 720 is like ok... I am not stisfied with it but happy...coz I think I can build up on my profile a bit too...:grad:
  17. Took my GMAT today... scored 720 (Q50 , V38) Just recieved my AWA score ----> 6.0 My Debrief: Background : I have done my Engg from a premier institutes in India(NIT,Warangal). I am working in an MNC and have completed 2 yrs of my my experience. The beginning: Well it all started after my CAT debacle in 2007. I hope most of you are aware of the indianised yuffer version of GMAT - the CAT. I had to do something different, so had zeroed on GMAT. My prep started around mid of April. The chase: To be very frank I was not up to the mark in Sentence Correction. I always thought that I had a good command over it but to my distress, It was not the case. As, it is said there's a thin line between confidence and over-confidence. I was a bit on the wrong side. I started off with the OG diagnostic test and Bang!!! came to know where I stand. I was on the least side in SC, RC was average, CR was above average and DS and PS were excellent.Strainght on my face.. I knew where I had to improve... Conclusion ....know your weaknesses...bring your overconfidence down to earthly levels.. I started with Manhattan SC guide...Completed it once with religiously doing each and every exercise. But to my disgrace still couldn't find any improvement. Then I did the same again and this time completed the OG SC. I still remember the way i used to make notes for each and every question of OG SC.. seriously speaking this method helps for starters... side by side I joined this Forum.. The one primary thing I did in this forum was start from the back... This is one good suggestion I would give to each person joining the Forum... most of Erin's and Bob's explanations can be found on the previous posts.... So better dig this forum thoroughly from the last page... Once I completed OG I seriously gained a lot of skills..a lot things got clear.. Just for Fun took a Paper test( A previous GMAT paper). I scored a Meagre 670.. Again the chase began.. I prepared a study plan. started practicising each section everyday. I know its like childish but mine was as follows: SC ---> 30 per day (As OG was completed started with 1000 SC) CR ---> 20 per day (first completed the OG with this schedule) RC ---> 3-5 passages per day (first completed the OG with this schedule) PS/DS ---> 30-40 question per day (first completed the OG with this schedule) Now the most important part of my Prep .. Keep a track record of where you are standing.. I mean start entering your success rate in each section in an excel. The reason for this I will explain later. The materials I completed for practice: Verbal: OG 10 OG 11 OG 10/11 review 1000 SC 1000 CR 1000 RC RC Sets Kaplan Premier ---> Did this just for practice--Somehow I didnt feel very comfortable with the explanations MLIC --> This was a MS-DOS background test--superb collection of tests and a time one..Even i was not aware of this but a friend of mine provided this to me. BRUTAL SC---> brings down ur level of confidence so that you can again go back to basics.. but many of the answers are wrong in this Well I read a lot of stuff on Indian politics and Economics regularly so I find mysel comfortable with GMAT RCs One recommended site:GMAT Grammar: Gmat Idioms For quant: Arun Sharma --> this is actually for CAT but try completing the difficulty level 1 exercises, they are surely useful There are some PS and DS sets available on E-Snips..Most of you would be having it... They are of moderate level, try completing this one too. Last but not the least "GMAT Manhattan Archive" --> A collection of the toughest DS/PS questions...you can find this on E-Snips. Any difficulty just lemme know I will attach it in this forum. With all this I excelled in all sections except CR...I was getting still some low scores in CR...So I started The powerscore LSAT CR. Some of the sections in this are awesome such as The paradox one, Logical conclusion amd statistics one. Just 3 weeks for My D-day gave the GMAT prep 1 --> scored 680 (this was not because of my fault, the place where I live was so prone to power cuts, that every time I started a test a power cut would interupt. had to close the test in the mid of one section) But still took it as my fault and then started the OG 11 once again. This was by chance that I did the OG once again, but would recommend every Test-Taker to complete the OG minimum of thrice before the D-day. Because of the regular Power cuts I was unable to complete my GMAT PREP 2, but gave some extra GMAT Test Papers(some old GMAT test) in which I constantly scored a 730 or 740, a 800score top paper where I scored a 740 and a Manhattan online test where I scored a 690.Most of the post in TM were when I was in office. Well i usually extended my office hours with a fear of power cuts at home. Well I cited above that keep a track record of your success rate in each section. The reason for this is as you keep preparing and practising you will surely reach a level when your sucess rate becomes constant, howmuchever you practice it would be hovering around the same value. Now this is the best time to revisit whatever you have gained, the theoretical part, and gain some extra knowledge. Mark my words after this surely your previous sucess rate would improve by nearly 5 %. During this period of revisiting I completed the Kaplan 800 and the OG (thrice cited above completed, all the sections)., Spidey notes, Sahil's Notes and my own hand-written notes og OG. Thats all about my 2 months of rigorous prepartion. Would like to thank some people---- Erin and Bob(the deadly combo in SC), Scorpion.KS,KillGMAT (they were extremely helpful in clearing my doubts) and then some recent joinees to TM -- Rockerz, Bholebaba to mention a few..it was a great experience having arguments... because Arguments are the one that make you reach a conclsion The D-Day: Well you must be wondering that I didnt add anything bout AWA. Well the reason was I was ok with it from very early, I used to write Blogs earlier which helped me a lot(Blogs were Informal obviously). So on the last day before the GMAT I went thru a few argument anaylis and Issue analysis. Wrote some two three of them , and then was quite confident on same. The D-Day started off bad..I couldn't find the center and reached just 15 min before my exam. Then some new formalities have been added like the fingerprint recognition, so better be prepared to sit for around 10-15 min extra. Wont deny that was nervous a bit, but surely it was taken away by the AWA section. Then the maths section was ok.. but to a surprise I was bombed with tough one in the begining, the first question was a compound interest question and it took me 5 mins... well I invested some 30 min for the first 15 questions.. these are the ones which decide whether you will cross the 700 barrier. There were some really confusing question the middle especially DS.My take on DS has always been that DS is the section which can lower your quant score , so invest some extra time and effort in DS(the number system probs are confusing).Once I finished my Quant i was sure i will be within 49-51 in quant. Took a break for Eng, had some water and came back for the fight. The first 2 question were SC questions-my strong point, so did them rightaway and was sure about it, but then a CR turned my head around. Took some time for it but made it sure that I pick the right option. Completed around 18 questions in the first 30 mins and then gained speed. The RC in the first 18 questions was above average. But I m sure in the first 18 I would have got a max of 2 or 3 wrong. Now the GMAT started kicking me, the SC became longer and longer in length, CR came with 5-6 lines of Arguments, and one RC was real long with just 3 questions. this was from 19th-32nd question. Then was the real test.An RC which threw me into a pool of thoughts. It was just a Two paragraph RC and I had to read it twice to get the answers. All this happened when there were only 14 mins left. I was like limping in my thoughts... So finshed off this RC with whetever understanding I had of it(would have got 2 outta 4 correct).I though it would be a relief after this, But then a long CR (complete the passage kinda) took some extra time of mine. I think i was not able to get over the RC debacle. But after that I had 2 SC(which i already mentioned became my strong point) and was able to complete my section. Could have got more in Verbal if the last 6-7 questions got correct. Scored 720(50Q,38V)....was expecting around 42 in Verbal but I think the RC played the spoil sport. Am done with my first step now will move ahead.
  18. I am not sure ...but somewhere I have read that for can be used as because... I think For has the same usage
  19. All matched except 14 ---> D ( chose this bcoz A goes out of scope..just confirm...the premise talks only about countries that need stable exports) and 19 A...
  20. Sorry dude...my system crashed yesterday so couldn't reply.. Well an empty is something which does not have a referent... its just there to give logical flow to the sentence... Like.. It is clear that testmagic is the best forum.. here "it" does not have a referent but still is important.. Go thru Erin's post http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gmat-sentence-correction/645-3-good-scs-verb-tense-empty-meaning-q.html
  21. Researchers are studying plastics that dissolve at different rates, and they are finding that the so-called "quick disintegration" plastics are taking more time to deteriorate than e) it originally seemed they would The point here is "plastic are taking more time to deteriorate" if we leave the last part as "it originally seemed" it would mean "it originally seemed plastics are taking" I hope you would agree this isnt correct. The catch here is that whatever seemed originally didnt happen actually... "would" brings out this criterion in the correct way
  22. D.. comparison between "the decline of a college graduate's wage" In D ----> that refers to decline.. A high school graduate's wage is parallel to a college graduate's wage..
  23. IMO E... "it" is an empty it.. originally needs to before seemed..... D is incorrect because it takes "ellipsis" to another level.... "taking time" is the verb that needs to come after seemed they would...
