  1. My interests are mostly in Development and Environmental...i know thats too broad but I want to combine the two and focus on low income and emerging economies. Any thoughts how the schools rank against each other?
  2. Hi, Any thoughts on either of these schools and how they weigh against each other? I'm guessing Minnesota is the best of the lot but I'm not sure where it stands today. Thanks!
  3. Thanks guys!! I'm rushing to finish apps...and realised that ISU hadn't even figured in my list of schools. Also I've decided to apply to Berkeley ARE as well... Is anyone here thinking of applying there as well? Or is already there? Any thoughts about the program?!? And AREStudentHopeful I'd hardly call that thread-hijack! :)
  4. Hi, Is anybody here from Iowa state or know a little bit more about the program? I am interested in resource and development economics and feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you
  5. Thanks AREStudentHopeful! I will add some of the top ranked programs to my list. Does anyone here know much about the program at minnesota or UIUC and how they compare? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
  6. i'm finishing my masters in econ in the US. And am an international applicant. My research interests are in applied micro/development. I've got good recommendations from the professors at my current university and I also have work experience in the development field. My GRE was 790Q and 700V. I don't know if I will stand a chance at UMD or Berkeley though. I've heard good things about UIUC, Penn State, UMN. But am not aware how these stand relative to each other.
  7. Also, is it true that cornell is pretty good but aid is a huge issue? Hence I dropped it out of my list. I'm not sure if aid is an issue in the other places i listed.
  8. Hi, thanks for the suggestion...i haven't looked at Iowa St. and I will now.
  9. Hi, I'm looking to apply to these Ag Econ programs. How would you rank these relative to each other? I'm guessing Davis is best; but I'm not sure about the rest. Thank you
  10. HI has anyone applied to these kind of programs? or is in one currently? I know of berkeley, HKS, WWS, Maryland, chicago that are around the top 10. Any others that are very good? How difficult is it to get aid in these kind of programs? thanks
  11. yes, my ultimate goal is a PhD. I am planning to leave with a masters ( i am currently in an econ phd program) since my interests do not match up with my department. i have a more social policy focus and so was wondering if the MPP is a better option. after which i would want to continue with a PhD in public policy. it seems a bit round about...but it seems like the only way to go about it.
  12. I was wondering about the MIA and MPA programs...the aid seems a big issue. Is the PhD sustainable dev very niche and selective? Did you have an environmental science background?
  13. Has anyone applied to SIPA? I've heard of many who say that they are still in debt and that the degree wasn't worth it anyway. How does it compare to HKS for instance in terms of aid and coursework? Thanks
  14. The other factor that I am worried about are the grades....if they are not B pluses or A minuses, will that work against me? I have a great academic record prior to entering the PhD and am concerned about how this will impact my career in the future. I will of course have to pass the prelims but the grades will still remain on the transcript. Does anyone know of cases where people have left and with bad performances on the exams but still managed to get into another program or a job? Any comments will be appreciated. Thank you
