  1. Thank you Luma :)! I took a paper based one... becoz das was the only option available in Sri Lanka There , we have to answer two essay type questions (Analytical writing part) for 1.15 hrs.. then there was a 15 mins interval.. After that ,my gosh, it was like 2 hours of continuous multi barrel rocket attack.. first , 38 verbal question came to be answered in 30 mins... as soon as I managed to mark all , 30 quantitative questions.... then without any gap another 38 questions of verbal............. following that , without giving a single moment to breath , another 30 questions in Q... As soon as I finished the exam I was able to smell the smoke from my burning brain.. I dint spend much time preparing for Quantitative ...Only did few exam papers from barrons book.. But , My English is incredibly horrible... For example , I used to do only the mathematical parts of my undergraduate examinations since I know that my passages are not going to be read by lecturers... :) Knowing my level of English , I started memorizing Barron's word list starting form the most frequency words... Then Did a Big Book paper... Looking at the answers, I decided to give up the Idea of taking GRE... After few days of the first try , made my mind up and tried another Big BooK paper... This time , I Packed all my GRE related materials, sealed it and thrown it under the bed swearing to god that I wont even think about doing GRE in future ... But , After few weeks , started used some phone games to memorize GRE words... Then just registered with ETS and took the examination without doing any mock examinations... Argh ... Writing paper based GRE is like giving birth to a fat child... God must help me finding an admission with this lower result ... Otherwise he should sit for me... Pray for me people ..

  3. Thanks a lot Brother! I'm planning for 2010-2011
  4. Hey could you please tell me a bit about this scholarship scheme? How do you apply for it? When do you apply for it? What should you have when you apply? What do they expect? What were your + points to get selected? I'm from Sri Lanka!
  5. T: 1200 Q: 770 V: 430 A: 3.0 Tried it for fun after a 4 week of preparation. it was a paper based one, because, in Sri Lanka it is CBT is not available. Planning to attack again on next February with full force. I don't think that any university will accept this score. I'm a Electronic engineer working in VLSI field for last six month after passing out from the Sri Lanka's best university with a first class(3.79/4.2 GPA). 1 pending research paper. IELTS: 7.5 BCS professional Graduate Diploma completed. My targets were A-/B+ grade universities. Any comments are welcome. :p
  6. Is the GRE required? Yes, the GRE General Exam is required for all applicants. Applicants must score 730 or above in the Quantitative area; the Analytical area must be 700 or 3.5, depending upon the type of testing; and the Verbal area must be above 450. Is there a minimum percentile score? Yes. Applicants from India should have a minimum percentile score of 80, and applicants from China should have a minimum percentile score somewhat higher. 7. Utah dead line is around february ,I guess. but most of the professers have had their recruitment done. I went through few of the CVs of EE profressors...... pss... All gone :( I'm on the same boat ... No replies when I contacted em . :( SUNY unis are gone too I guess....
  8. "Admissions will be based on the quality of the applicant’s prior college work, letters of recommendation, GRE scores, and appropriate coursework in preparation for study in the biomedical field. In general, an applicant must have a baccalaureate degree in biomedical, chemical or mechanical engineering or its equivalent from an accredited college or university. Undergraduate preparation should include two semesters of each of biology, physics, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry, two semesters of materials science and/or solid mechanics, as well as four semesters of calculus, including differential equations. For otherwise exceptionally qualified students, admission may be granted with the proviso that the student undertake coursework in areas not fully covered during undergraduate preparation." Hmmm.... It's too risky. I love human body but hate Biology( A bloody subject, yuk). I better select signal and Systems for my masters and do a PhD in Neural waves. Anyway thanks a lot for your kindly reply. I wish you to have an Interstiing and successful life at carolina. Thank you so much! :)
  9. I have done Electronic engineering as my BS.There, I haven't done any subject related to Bio Medical Engineering. But I'm really interested in doing a masters in Signals related to Human body, specifically brain. Is it possible to get admission for an MS in that field? When I searched for the Course pre-requirements, all universities ask for some courses to have completed. Are there any universities Where I can Apply with this scenario? Thanks a lot!
  10. Use mnemonic dictionay site every day. Memorize Barrons list (100 words per day). Use Kaplans advices and memorizing techniques. Download ETS's maths syllabi and memorize it. Learn to write effectively. Download GRE games on ur phone and whenever you have time. Good luck.
  11. Thanx a lot! My passport will be an evidence. It has both the earlier name and new name as well ! Thanks again.!
  12. I'm a Tamil. Tamils dont have a family name. Therefore, in my passport, officers have put my name as "sur name" and my fathers name as "Other names". I kept the passport like that for 2 years and in the middle , I took IELTS too which is stilll valid. But, before taking the GRE I had to change my name in the passport . And , now my passport says: correct surname should read as: My fathers name, correct other name should read as: My Name.(They have printed this in the alteration page.) Can I Still use that IELTS result or should i retake the exam? (The IELTS test report contain my Date of Birth and Passport ID.)
  13. Hi.... I'm not even a average level composer. But I got 7.5 in writing means , you all guys can blast that part. I enlight the way how I tackled it. Part 1: There are 4 types of graphs and possibly 9 cominations of them are expectable. (like a line graph and a pie chart or 2 bar charts). Prepare a starting sentence. (like : bla bla is compared or shown ... in the given grapghs .... during .... and ....)Starting was always a problem for me. Prepare some finishing senteces as well. (Like :to recapitulate, reiterate etc).First write down the conclusion By glancing through the grapghs and comparing them quickly. Then start to find out the eye catching parts and explain or compare them in the body part. Make sure that in your summury you have a long complicated sentence with good vocabulary and it consicely expalins the graph flows as well. In addition to that, it is a must to use linking word everywhere.(however,In contrast,In addition to that.. etc) I'll explain part 2 in next post. Cheers! :)
  14. Hi! Does anybody have any experience in contacting ETS through phone to get the scores early? Is it automated? How many times they repeat telling the results? What if I couldn't hear well? I sat for a paper based GRE in Sri Lanka on 25th Oct 2008. It seems that my results will be sent by end of December which I consider to be far too late. Therefore, by spending $12, I want to check through phone. I eagerly expect advices and suggestions. Thank you!
