Gave my gre few hours back. I had given gre before with a score of 1400 but only 740 in maths and i was disappointed with that. i had posted about it in this forum and mostly got the reply that i shud give it again. so i gave it again n now its ok :p
anyways i prepared for about a month. Only books i used were Barron's and Big Book tests. And CAT from Kaplan and Princeton review. Kaplan is tough, printon review is easy. So they balance out each other.
Few observations:
1. Maths is not as easy as thot by most people (esp engineers). Its tricky maths and u need to practice. Its not tough. Thats the main reason i foundered in the first attempt.
2. i cudnt beleive it but i got 2 qs directly from PP and 1 analogy was alomst same as in PP. the answer was the question and the question had become the correct answer choice. I had given the PP tests repeatedly so that i cud gather all questions in its question bank. i think everybody shud do this. anyways its good practice. and they sure r the best indicators of actual GRE score.
3. Do BB. its good. u shud do all the tests. good practice and helps u think like GRE tests makers. esp for analogies n RC.
4. Barron's list is still the best wordlist. But only if u want a 600-650. Just learning wordlists wont get u any more. for getting more u need to read more. newspapers, magazines, good novels. any good reading will help u to atleast guess better at words u dont knw. i did Barrons thoroughly and this is wat i feel. i got atleast 4-5 words out of barrons and i think i did most of them wrong.
anyways Maths in this forum is good. and all verbal doubts can be cleared with good explanations. i think ppl shud just come for a daily dose of maths questions on this forum and tat wud be enuf practice.
Thanks everybody. i have been a seldom poster but now i ll be a regular and help out in any way required..
