  1. Interesting. What's the difference in program between finance and econ programs? It seems like only the second year of coursework is different (since the first is mostly econ), and that the 3-5 year of writing could be on a topic that spans both fields.
  2. Interesting. Do think that the combination of: 1. Excellent LORs from professor's who have worked with me in qualitative capacities 2. LORs from partners at my firm who have worked with me in quantiative capacities 3. My very strong physics quantitative background would be enough? I don't have such strong relationships with economists, given that I didn't take a lot of economics in college.
  3. My research interests are relatively wide, ranging from governmental fiscal and monetary policy to asset pricing, poverty, environmental economics, and emerging markets.
  4. I have academic research experience in both physics and international studies, though not in economics. I have also done signficant amounts of more corporate research in my current work. My LORs will likely come from professors (anthro and a very senior history professor), as well as from partners at my current firm who can attest to my quantitative modeling ability. Many of my physics and math courses were proof based.
  5. I'm interested in applying to econ phd programs at top 15 business schools (e.g. Harvard, Stanford, Chicago, Wharton). My background is: Undergrad at HYP, B.S. in Physics and International Studies, GPA: 3.86 (4.00 in Physics), Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa GRE: M800, V620, A6.0 Math: Took through multivariable calculus in high school, linear algebra in college, and also took a math for physics majors course that covered topics in differential equations and probability Econ: Intro macro, micro, developmental Work experience: 2+ years as a management/strategy consultant for a top firm exclusively in their financial services practice (experience with structured, project finance, asset management). Am I competitive at top programs?
