  1. DGS of Davis just told me that I was 2nd on the waitlist, but they already had enough, I think, elites. Wow, that was really close.
  2. Get in contact, shall we? You can PM me if you'd like to...
  3. Who are those folks? Show yourselves and do not lurk any more!:p Right. And Davis might also consider their own master's students. Good luck with you and your achievements in Davis, n_r. BTW, buy some anti-radiation pills (this also applies to ARE and other fellas who go to CA); it's really getting worse, the Japanese nuke disaster... My friend in LA said all of those pills have been sold out in the great LA area. Surfing and sea-swimming? I don't know.
  4. Thanks! Although I cannot read minds and tell who's who... Who is CJW, for example? Ha-ha. Good luck, ARE. It's PST anyway, so they still have time to make a big offer to you! Exactly my point. However, I wait for news from Davis yesterday until PST 10pm, no good. Guess almost everyone is accepting offers from Davis this year.
  5. Just accepted the offer from NCSU last night.
  6. Just came back from Raleigh. Very impressive. Nice talking with Dr. DP. But still cannot decide. If I want to work with Phaneuf, should I follow him and accept the Wisconsin offer? Or should I be happy with NCSU as it is without Phaneuf? Wisconsin AAE has really weak placement records and don't even require qualify. And Purdue raised their offer today, fwiw. Hope I can get off the Davis waitlist. Will make my decision much easier.
  7. Good for you fellas to make decisions! I am, on the other hand, sitting in NCSU Econ right now...waiting for meet...
  8. Can an offer from Purdue make the choice more difficult?
  9. Institution: Purdue Program: Ph.D. Ag Economics Decision: Accepted Funding: RA Notification date: April 8 Notified through: E-mail Posted on GC: No ==== Geez. I have no idea.

  11. Thanks again, ARE. Yes, I consider UNC based on health economics. When I was in my undergrad (and later as a post-undergrad RA) I had worked with big name professors in China as a part of the national project for rural health status survey and med insurance reform, which was a big thing in China (a 10-year plan and billions of RMB). And I had published two papers with my professors based on our study. You might know that UNC has a prof who had spent some of his time on health issues in China, and my big name boss had some connections with him and maybe a few others. I had listed my such experiences in my CV and my SOP, and I think the UNC people might know something about that. If I eventually get funding from UNC and attend, then I might choose health as my major and consider interactions between environment and health as a secondary field. And I might even have different career plans, if so (like work for government or international orgs).

  14. FWIW, I just declined my offers from Oregon State, Iowa State and another two; good luck with those waiting. Now it's really just NCSU, Wisconsin, Davis (?) and UNC (?).
  15. Great post, ARE. Research is DEFINITELY important. So far most of my admits come from schools whose faculty had communications with me on my research (AAEA meeting presentation, two forthcoming papers ans several seminars). And I was lucky enough to have a few very well-known and well-connected professors to help me. And a research master's, i.e. M.S., makes all those possible for me. Okay, I think I should write a post based on my experiences as an international applicant who also applied more than once.
  16. Wow. If we only represent a small group, then I would imagine a number of 50 or more waitlists... Not sure about that... if you have a decision to make before the April 15 deadline, and none of your current offers are better than those where you are waitlisted, it will be very painful...
  17. Right. I was saying "when Kerry Smith was there"... but things have changed a lot since then. And congrats on your UWY admit, ARE!
  18. Right... I was thinking about overall ranking... So when VKS was there, maybe it's something like Cal, NCSU, UMD (maybe also Nicholas School) > the rest. Not sure how things are going on now... Edit: I am visiting NCSU very soon. Can I ask "the prospects of future hiring"...directly? Don't know if that is awkward...
  19. Thanks; but I don't think I can eventually get in there... re NCSU in EnvNatRes: Not any more after Kerry Smith's departure. At least people told me so.

  22. LOL. Probably this whole thing is miserable. I will visit Raleigh FWIW.
  23. The only two things that TAMU interests me are: - Possibility of working with McCarl - I have family members in Houston There is a guy in a separate post said he/she is not happy in NCSU and is accepted by Pitt and considers leave NCSU for Pitt. Very negative, I'd say. almoki, congrats on your funded offer from MSU. I heard MSU has very serious funding issues this year. And our results are quite similar, really interesting, FWIW.
