  1. thanks Ancalagon, I did talk to my seniors and everything is taken care of. Now, for anyone having a similar problem, I'll post the solution here: Although many universities in India work at a snails pace when it comes to providing the final degree certificate, The University of Rajasthan holds the record of an Average 4 years delay before conferring the degree. If you require your degree before that, they provide u with an 'english degree' at a nomial cost of RS 100. This 'english degree' is good for all practical purposes including jobs and further studies. But there's a catch: They only provide the english degree one year after the final passing examination, ie. if you passed ur VIII semester exams in 2008, u will be 'elligible' to apply for the english degree in 2009. As always, there's a way to move around this condition. All you have to do is write an application to the Vice Chancellor of the University explaining your urgent requirement of the english degree and provide some sort of proof to colaborate this urgency. His office is in the university main campus itself, so you won't have to wear out your shoes. The proof I provided were: 1) Copy of my official acceptance letter into the graduate program at the US university. 2) Printouts of my email communication with this US university which explicitely states that I require the official degree urgently. Thats it....sit back and relax. 15 days later you'll have your degree delivered at your house. Back in the game...!!!... Perspective
  2. Ancalagon, thanks for the reply. But they dont accept provisional degree at NCSU. Period. I have already provided them my provisional degree, but its good only till admission procedure lasts. Anyway, thanks again.
  3. Hi all, I have been admitted for Spring 2009 graduate course for MS in CS at NCSU. I did my bachelor's from University of Rajasthan. The university is famous (infamous...!!!..) for its tardiness and usually takes about 1.5-2 years before providing the bachelo's degree certificate. I contacted the grad school at NCSU regarding this and this is what they have to say: " In response to your email, you are expected to present your degree certificate stating your degree and date awarded by the end of your first semester enrolled as a Graduate Student at NC State University. We can give students an extra semester if needed, however, until that degree certificate is received, a plan of work cannot be approved and you cannot take any oral exams towards your degree. Sincerely, (I have withheld the person's name)" Now, since I wont be receiving my certificate for atleast a year, does any body have any sollution to get around this? Specifically: 1) Is there any student from University of Rajasthan, India, in the current/previous student body (any stream...) at NCSU? - If a UniRaj student is reading this, plz reply, I can use some help here. - If you know of a UniRaj student current/previous and have no issues with providing me that person's email id (you should check with him first, obviously !!!), I request you to do so. - If you have ever experienced this problem or know of somebody who has had a similar experience, although you may not be a UniRaj student, plz reply to this mail. 2) Should I consider going to one of the other schools that have accepted my candidacy for MS in CS/CE (Virginia Tech, UCS, CU Boulder)? Or is this rule general to all the schools at US (or these three schools in particiular) ?....Up to this point I had finalized NCSU for my graduate studies, but now, because of this I am having second thoughts. I don't expect any body here to answer this by saying "leave NCSU, go to other schools", but I do need to know if I'm going to face similar problems there as well? Just so you know, many people from UniRaj go to US for MS/phD, but none of my peers/immidiate seniors at my college (affiliaed to UniRaj) have choose US as their final destination for graduate studies. So, I haven't been able to contact anyone. Also, at NCSU, THEY DON'T ACCEPT PROVISIONAL DEGREE CERTIFICATE. Please reply if you have the faintest idea regarding this problem. Thanks, Perapective
  4. Thanks calm logic, I haven't thought that far ahead that. What I'd really like to know is the internal juicy stuff: which of these schools 'usually'/ 'in the past' have offered a fair amount of TR/RAs to MS student (I hate to be blunt, but I guess this 'money awareness' day comes in the life of every Graduate student). Second, CS Department wise (computer architecture), is NCSU a good university to be at?
  5. hi all...I was admitted into the spring09 MS graduate course in CS/CE at the following universities: NCSU UTA UTSA CSU Ft Collins ASU CU Boulder ISU I am interested in Computer Architecture / VLSI. I know that not much aid will be available for MS student (international at that...!!!), but do you have any idea regarding the TA/RA situation at these colleges..? College funding is increasingly becomming an issue with me, so TA/RAs would help a lot (I am also looking into bank loans). I am thinking of going to NCSU...can you suggest good reasons to go to other universities in this list..?
  6. hi all...I also got selected at NCSU, for MS in Comp Science. I have also been offered admissions at UTA, UTSA, CSU Ft Collins, ASU, CU Boulder, ISU, CSU SAcramento. I know that not much aid will be available for MS student (international at that...!!!...), but do you have any idea regarding the TA/RA situation at these colleges..?...also, I am thinking of going to NCSU...what do you say..?
