  1. Hey guys! Just to give everyone a heads up on NYU's admissions process - I do not think they review applications in the order they were submitted. I turned my application in late (March 2nd) and I recieved an unofficial acceptance e-mail from NYU on March 31. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!
  2. I'm not sure why you're confused. I started this thread in October, plenty of time to apply to any of those programs. As for my grammer, give me a break. I'm not writing my thesis here. To deep.19: I didn't end up applying to Yale IDE. I decided development programs will not satisfy my career goals. To sprucepineave114: GO GATORS!!! :)
  3. Seems that way :( I e-mailed them yesterday asking when I will be receiving notification and this is what they told me: "We finalized all of our decisions last week and the student files have been returned to the Graduate School. Once they have processed them they will send out notifications directly to the students, which in my experience usually takes about a weeks time depending on how busy they are. If you have not hear from them by the end of next week please let me know and I will address it. Best of luck to you."
  4. Is there anyone out there still waiting to hear back from Duke? I just saw the following letter on the Duke AM website: http://www.econ.duke.edu/ecoteach/masters/Duke%20Economics%20-%20Letter%20to%20M.A.%20Applicants.pdf Do you guys think this is a mass rejection for anyone who hasn't yet heard back? I haven't received an official email yet, and my application still only says submitted.
  5. I know Duke is on Spring Break right now. Does anyone know if the adcoms will continue to send out notifications during this week?
  6. Hey Paxi, can I ask when you turned your Duke app in?
  7. Anyone know when we should expect to hear from Duke?
  8. Peruano929, I go to UF too! And coincidentally, I'm also applying to some of the same master's programs as you. go gators!
  9. Anyone else applying to a Economics masters program for Fall 2009, or a related program like International Relations, Development, or Public Policy? If so, where?
  10. Yea, I know this is a big problem, but I will be taking Intermediate Micro next semester. Because I had to stay on track with my other major, I haven't been able to take it yet. Do you think that if I wrote this on my application, it would be sufficient?
  11. Well I'm not just thinking about Canada schools, infact I didn't think about any Canadian programs until Canuchonomist mentioned them. I'm also curious about the schools I mentioned in my initial post on this thread. I know they are all intensively competative and I want to know if my C+ has ruined my chances for them.
  12. How much would you guys say a C in Macroecon will hurt my chances of getting into a top econ masters program? Overall, I feel my GPA is pretty good, but this is a major class, so i'm worried schools are going to look at my C and decline me admission. Has anyone had experience with a situation like this?
  13. Thanks Canuckonomist! I wasn't aware that any masters programs gave out funding. That would certainly help. Are you currently doing a masters at Queens? I'm not sure I would be the best candidate for a scholarship as there are probably more qualified people. What are your thoughts?
  14. Does anyone know if there is a way to apply to more than two LSE masters programs?
  15. Hi guys, i've been a lurker on this bored for about two weeks reading up on all the good advice, but now I need your help! I'm applying for an for a Fall 2009 position in a some variation of a Masters in Economics program and i'd like opinions on my profile and what my chances are to get a good situation. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Double majoring in Economics and Statistics from large public university in Southeast US (Top 50 Econ) and a minor in Religion Undergrad GPA: 3.77/4 GRE: Taking in November, but from practice expect to get 750-800Q and 550V Math and Statistics Courses: Calc I (B), Calc II (A), Calc III (B+), Linear Algebra (A), Intro to Probability (A), Statistical Theory I (B), Statistical Theory II (A), Regression Analysis (A), Design of Experiments (B), Survival Analysis (expecting A), Advanced Calc (expecting A), Survey Design (expecting A) Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Microeconomics (B+), Macroeconomics (A), Urban Economics (A), International Trade (A), Intermediate Macroeconomics (C+), Managerial Economics (A) Other: Studied Abroad at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Interests: Development, Financial Economics, Trade Theory, Game Theory Concerns: Not so stellar grades, especially my C in Intermediate Macroeconomics Just to be clear, I want a masters because I want to have a solid foundation in economics and eventually want to work in the private sector or for a goverment organization. This is not to make me a stronger applicant for a phd. Programs i'm looking into include: LSE Msc Econ, or their new MPA International Development, and some other related programs Duke Masters in Econ Oxford Masters in Development Cambridge Mphil in Econ NYU Masters in Econ BU Masters in Econ Yale IDE Harvard MPA/ID Do you guys think these programs are two much of a stretch for me? Can you recommend any other programs? Did anyone here get accepted into any of these programs, and if so can you post your profile so I can compare? How important is the ranking of your undergrad institution in determining your admission? I can't find a lot of information about American students who got accepted into the Harvard MPA/ID and Yale IDE, as the majority are international students. Can anyone tell me how competative these programs are for Americans, and also what your chances are of getting in without any relevant work experience? Has anyone done it? And finally, does anyone think that admissions will be more competative because more people are applying due to the economics crisis and lack of jobs? Phew, okay I know thats a lot, but I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
