  1. Hi Everyone, Could anyone share the perspective on nature of PhD program at Texas A&M (TAMU)? What is the average attrition rate at TAMU? On average most of the US PhD programs are equally competitive. However, some of them are very hard. I can see the steep decline in numbers of (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year) PhD students on TAMU's website. Please help. Thank you in advance for your time.
  2. Hello I need your advice urgently regarding my recent (PhD Economics) admission offers (without funding) from Texas A&M, NCSU (North Carolina Stata Uni.) and Kansas State University KSU. I am confused about two things: Is there any other way to get funding? Secondly even if I use my personal resources to start the PhD at any of the above mentioned schools then which of them is the most risky place in terms of funding for the next year and the high attrition (drop-out) rate? Please advise me as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and consideration.
  3. I am sorry i can't comment on your query. I had the old 800score GRE software. As per my knowledge and experience, 800score tests are harder than Powerprep tests. May I ask you for a suggestion how to get 800score New GRE software.
  4. I agree with you. I am quickly reviewing the math sections especially the exercises for each math sections (like Geometry, etc) from different books (Barons, Princeton and Manhattan). Once these math section are over. Then I will take full length tests in a same sequence as you mentioned above. How about verbal?
  5. Bring it on...! I am on the same path. What is the game plan?
  6. @godlesschum If i understand your logic then it means that it helps a lot if we cram 3500 words.
  7. Well done....!!! :) Congratulations!!!
  8. We are all low achievers on GRE (including me I also got 720 in quant) connected with each other through this thread. We are very eager to join each other without any plan and strategy in hands. Are we really interested in achieving this task of scoring good score in GRE? I have a strong belief that we can achieve anything as long as the commitment and clear vision is there. Lets find ours!!!:) Let me be honest, all of us who have achieved score more than 700 are ok with basic math concepts/problems. But we tend to lose our grip over ourselves when it comes to hard math problem under time constraint. Finally Data Interpretation problems drive us crazy too. I myself started reviewing ETS book on RGRE. My other books (Barron and Princeton) will be with me by this Tuesday. I am really thinking of coming up with good plan to get good score. To me the only strategy sounds attractive is to solve or practice as many hard problems as possible under time constraints. In the past, I solved lots of math problem of Big Book as well. Solving those problem without time constraints is not an issue. How to get hardest problem of New RGRE pattern is a big question? In case of Old GRE, we had 800score like software which really give you tough time. Are there good program for RGRE as well? Please comment!!! I responded before about connecting through Skype. Is it a viable plan to connect with each other through Skype? I am ready to do that.:) The best way to exchange the id would be to send ids through private messages.
  9. Hello Everyone, Could anyone share thoughts on age limit (esp for a candidate who is 33 years old) for admission in PhD Economics program? I have more than 8 years experience of teaching (undergrad courses like Game Theory and IO) and research (policy related research of course with few publications too). What are the chances of being unfavorable applicant due to age (as mentioned above 33)? :(
  10. Great Idea!!!!!!..I agree connecting on daily basis at Skype.
  11. The site does not open!!!!!!!!

I never used any website for vocabulary. I guess you need regular and careful reading. Read online or offline, read anything with care. Apart from that Barons has good exercises which gives you practice on reading section.
  13. This is the same dilemma that I am in. I got 99 score but want more than 100... :( Well..I will got for it again. Re-scoring as per my knowledge is expensive ($60 per section).

Barron is more than enough!!!! I took TOEFL thrice and I scored 79, 97 and then 99. I studied seriously second time and improved my score from 79 to 97. The last time I appeared without any preparation. I am going to retake it again because i need 100+ score. I have not seen or heard anyone recommending TOEFL book other than Barron. The best thing about Barron is that it matches (to larger extent) with the the level of difficulty of original test. You will experience significant improvement in your score if you take its test seriously under time limits. Evaluate your weaknesses!!!!!! My second advice would be that you should evaluate seriously on your own your weaknesses. It will be good if you could spend time on the weakest areas like listening, writing or whatever. Develop habit of regular reading!!! If you are in a habit of reading few pages of any (of course English) magazine, newspaper, I have a feeling that it will give you enough vocabulary. :) Hope it will help!!!!!
