  1. Well... a hard work of 6 weeks at an OK end. I scored 750 Quant and 350 Verbal. Disappointed with my Verbal score, but going to leave it as it is for now. Not planning to give GRE again. My experience on the GRE day and exam... First had the Essay part and it went OK. Issue choices were on - civilization related or idealism related. I cannot disclose the contents but it was on these lines (in short). Argument was OK too. Then came the Verbal section. first word was the word for which I knew the STEM word, but the antonyms in the choices, they had made it tricky, i really spent a lot of time finding the answer. wish i had just guessed it because at the end of verbal section there was a very little time (about 2 minutes remaining) and i had to guess above 6-7 questions (that was really bad). I got 2 english sections and the first one was very hard... right from the beginning question and the second Verbal section was easier, i felt good about the 2nd Verbal section, but i m sure i was scored on the first one (looking at the score). First 2 RCs were not not too long. And the 3rd RC was a lengthy one, but again I was running out of time so I had to guess at that one. It was dreadful. Then came Quant, I was pretty confident about my frist 12 questions response (if i remember correct), but on 13th or 14th question, i was asked about percentiles... cannot write the question here but it was similar to what you get on powerprep. i was not sure of it and i had to make an educated guess on that. Maths, i m happy with my score, but english i m not. but not planning to give gre again. i want to apply for MS in Computer Science or User centered design program. About english.. i must say there were words from Barrons HFW. Thats all I had studied for the words... HFW from Barrons. And some odd words from PR tests and powerprep tests. I must tell this to the future students... please time yourself thoroughly with the time structure. That really stresses you out (atleast it did to me). With maths, my overall experience was that.. it was easy. I was anyway confident for Maths, was hoping around 780 but its OK for now. Also, I must admit that I had this notion from before... that Verbal will be tough and that it is going to be a nightmare. I dont know but I had this feeling... and I think this DID NOT really help. not at all. please students... keep a positive attitude towards the GRE exam and I am sure you can score a lot better. Now I feel that, I should have felt about the Verbal part a lot differently before the exam and it would have helped me. but never mind! Good luck and let me know if you want any other information.
  2. Can anyone help me here... Normal distribution problem the variable x is normally distributed. If the values of x at the 45th,15th and kth percentile is 550,350 and 450 respectively column A column B k 30 Answer is k B can anyone explain this?
  3. Ya I agree with Allison, sorry about the previous confusion. Thanks Allison for the explanation!
  4. I think it would be 4.37, because 4.3648 becomes 4.365 which becomes 4.37 am I correct, on the similar lines, I came across to this question - what is 0.7435675 rounded to the nearest tenth-thousandth? A = 0.7436
  5. Answer is A I did solve the problem exactly as bkAparna did.
  6. Congratulations! your score (overall) is awesome, well done. I have to beat the beast tomorrow!!! yes my exam is tomorrow! I read all you mentioned about the exam, and i m also preparing myself for unknown words and lengthy RCs, hope it goes well. congratulations to you again!
  7. Thanks Ravloo and Rain. Ravloo your explanation really helped. I wish I could do probablities so easily, but never mind, I think i should be fine for the exam!!! Thanks again
  8. What is the answer for 4. Given numbers from 1 to 10. Two numbers are to be selected from these 10 numbers and they can be same also. What is the probability that at least one of them is even? Is it 1/2 because they are saying that they can be same also. Means the first no. you will pick, can be picked up again?
  9. Ah... i got totall confused with the concept... ignore my question. I think i know the difference. its ok please ignore the quesiton
  10. Ravloo.. you mentioned Remember median is equal to the middle number, or the average of the middle two numbers if the total amount of numbers is even. Is it also true that if no. of numbers are odd, then the mean is the middle no. Eg. mean of 4, 7, 9, 14, 17 would be 9??? Of course for this eg. its easy to do manually, but for big range of nos???
  11. Oh yeah, it says Find the median if both classes are combined? I thought it says find the MEAN... I apologise for the above explanation. I agree with Ravloo... we do not have sufficient information here.
  12. Goldust thanks again. your explanation helps to understand. I did not think about working with combinations. I like combinations approach more then breaking my head... but it did help to understand either ways. thank you again.
  13. 8.Given the median of two classes are as follows. Median of a class of 45 students = 53 Median of a class of 34 students = 40 Find the median if both classes are combined? Two classes A and B and median, they aer talking of score (i m guessing here) Class A Mean = total of all students score/ no. of students 53 = x / 45 x = 53*45 = 2385 Class B Mean = total of all students score/ no. of students 40 = y / 34 y = 1360 Median of A and B New Mean = total of all students score (A+B) / Total no. of students New M = x+y / 45 + 34 = 2385+1360 / 79 = 3745 / 79 = 47.4 Hope it helps
  14. I have a new question... It was on the Princeton review test - online test A jar contains 12 marbles; each is either red or blue and there are twice as many red marbles as blue marbles. If two marbles are to be selected from the jar at random, what is the probability that exactly one of each color is selected? 1) 8/33 2) 16/33 I thought it was 8/33 but they say, its 16/33 Their explanation is - The probability of Red then Blue is http://tester.review.com/GRE/46628/Q22835_10.gif. The probability of Blue then Red is http://tester.review.com/GRE/46628/Q22835_11.gif. Add these and get http://tester.review.com/GRE/46628/Q22835_12.gif Can someone explain me WHY THEY ARE SAYING we have to ADD THE TWO POSSIBILITIES?
  15. hi Ravloo. First of all congrats on your score. I think its a good score. How was the verbal section for you? were most of the words familiar to you (antonyms)? my exam is on 8th, and just brushing up my brain...
