  1. My brother is 31, and he plans to apply to a finance PhD program. I'm just wondering whether that age is too old to start studying for PhD. Do schools reject you base on your age? Does anyone know someone who actually started at around this age or so? Your reply is greatly appreciated. Doc
  2. Hi all, Can you please share your strategies of how to increase your speed in doing critical reasoning questions? I will take me at least 5 minutes for one.
  3. Hi there, Can you please tell me where you can find the topics for the admission essay? Do you need to contact the school for them or are they usually posted on the school's webpage? I tried to search on its webpage, but I couldn't find the topics. Thanks
  4. Do you guys think that practice questions with answer explanation are better than those without? Sometimes I feel skeptical with some correct answers, and without the explanations, there is no way that I can understand why those answers are correct.
  5. What are some ways to increase your speed in solving a problem? Would you rather complete all questions but get a low score due to incorrect answers or not able to complete all questions because you spend too much time to make sure the answers that you have entered are not from guessing?
  6. Do you guys actually memorize them?
  7. From the old days, I was taught to use nor this way: "They don't know how to do x nor do they know how to do y." In Kaplan, the correct answer of the question says "They don't know how to X or how to Y." One of the incorrect answer choices is "They don't know how to X nor how to Y." I'm wondering why the nor answer choice is incorrect. Obviously, the structure is different than what I learned in the old days.
  8. How? I want to balance my study between math and verbal. What is your strategy?
  9. Just curious, how long did you guys prepare for the exam? How many times did you take the exam to get the score you want?

    Scrap Papers?

How many scrap papers do you get during the test?
  11. What is so good about 4GMAT's study material? I now have Manhattan GMAT's sentence correction and OG11 for verbal. I'm not sure what else to get now. I thought about getting Kaplan's, but bhawan said they were too difficult and would demoralize you.
  12. Do you guys and gals think attending to GMAT courses/classes will help? They're quite expensive; therefore, I want to get some suggestions. Please share your experience.
  13. It's now 2009, but I want to get some 2008 GMAT books for study since they're now cheaper. I want to know whether it's helpful to get old books for review instead of the new ones?
  14. For the second question, the answer from Barron's book is "B. Everyone of us has understood that without his helping us." I really think that "D. Everyone of us has understood that without him helping us" is the correct answer. Can someone explain. As what others have said, Barron's GMAT guide is very lousy. The answer explanations are terrible. What are your 2 cents on this question?
