  1. yup, but 3 is not in the answer options.:) hence, I said it is divisible by only 9
  2. Luma, now I understand why you favor Nova for argument essays.:) Well written!
  3. 1. I would start with the very first 5 digit number 10000 and its reflection 00001 Difference is 9999, divisible by only 9 2. Use the formula: Simple Interest = Principle * Rate * Period (in years) / 100 Plugging the values, I get Rate = 9%
  4. Thanks Luma, I didnt know Nova argument analysis section is good. Will go through that.
  5. Is the question complete? How do we know that X is the total number of students and not the number of students who did not take the test?
  6. I think the question is mistyped bcoz it says there are 5 sections. The answer is 40*40*40*40 hence there should be 4 sections
  7. Thanks a lot for the tips and encouraging comments! I really commend that you visit and help people in this forum even after your GRE is done!
  8. I also came up with the same answer as terchie's second one. However, the answer and explanation given is: One student representative can be selected from section I in 40 ways One student representative can be selected from section II in 40 ways One student representative can be selected from section III in 40 ways One student representative can be selected from section IV in 40 ways Hence the number of ways in which a set of 4 representatives can be selected = 40 * 40 * 40 * 40 I think the question is mistyped. It should be 4 sections and not 5.
  9. Try this. Each section in the Ist year of a college course has 40 students. If there are 5 sections, in how many ways can a set of 4 student representatives be selected, 1 from each section?
  10. Goldust, I was browsing through the posts and see that you have been a guru in GRE and have some good experience (and a very good score as well). Hence wanted some some expert opinion. What do you suggest for people having their GRE in 3 weeks? I know solving lots of tests at home helps but I had some specific questions for myself - 1. I have been solving these Big book verbal tests for some time now. These are old format tests so there are 38 questions to be solved in 30 mins. However, I am only able to solve 23 on an average. Also out of 38 I always get around 10 incorrect. No particular pattern and hence I am unable to identify my weak area. My question for you - I want to get as good score as I can. With my performance in BB verbal, what do you think I need to do to improve my speed and accuracy? 2. I am quite good in quants. But never get the perfect 800. I want to practice more on quants, esp timed tests. What material do you suggest? 3. What was your approach for AWA section? I am sure all your suggestions would help the other members as well. Thanks in advance!
  11. There are 2 possibilities - Correct © and Incorrect (I) And 8 questions Hence Sample Space is 2^8 = 256 Now, exactly 7 correct will be only in 8 situations: CCCCCCCI CCCCCCIC CCCCCICC CCCCICCC CCCICCCC CCICCCCC CICCCCCC ICCCCCCC Hence, the required probability = 8/256 = 1/32
  12. I didnt get the question correctly. "Average ratio of the average heart rate". Is it: 1. Average of female heart rate and average of male rate and then the ratio? OR 2. Calculate Ratio first and then average out? OR 3. Simply the maximum ratio?
  13. OA is A, B and C I have the below doubts: 1. For 1, why cant it be convoluted? 2. For 3, how can "reconstruction" fit? Archaealogical site is not something newly constructed or reconstructed. Isnt it an already existing site? 3. For 2, Tepid means lukewarm. I thought tepid is used only in context of water or liquids. how can tepid define ones expressions?
  14. here you go: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/gre-math/114099-geometry-problem.html
  15. Its 288. We will have to make some approximations in this problem. This has been discussed before. I will post the link in the next post
