  1. Ok but the SEK180k is not tax free. With taxes the super market cashier earns 180*0.65 (35% of taxes) = SEK 117 k (maximum) or 180*0.55 (45% of taxes) = SEK 99 k (minimum) The SSE scholarship is tax free... SEK 171 k / year :p
  2. Actually, Samuel Lee is from SSE Finance...
  3. Yes, I agree with all of you. UNC-CH PhD program is stronger than the SSE one, specially on Fin Metrics. An the opportunities the Triangle offers are really great. In SSE program alumns can also take any courses in any Department of Nordic region... and they send alumns to spend one year in Harvard, MIT, Chicago... but, yes, I still think UNC is stronger... Do you agree with me?? :) Thus, my decision seems to be: (SSE scholarship + Stockholm life + life in Europe after PhD) x (UNC-CH PhD Program) or (quality of life) x (better education) Hard choice...
  4. The SSE year scholarship is $171,000 krona. SSE students said me I could live confortably with my own apartment in Stockholm city center, food, transportation, clothes... with $120,000 krona per year (maximum). I´m sure it´s a good offer.
  5. I´ve received offers from UNC-CH and SSE (Econ Fin Metrics joint program). The UNC funding offer is TA-US$12,556 (tax free) for the 2009/2010 academic year and the SSE funding offer is a scholarship of US$22,230. My research interests are on Macro, Finance, Financial Econometrics. I know UNC is strongest than SSE in Fin Econometrics (there are no comparisons). But the SSE scholarship is 77% superior and I would live in Stockholm :D The SSE placements are also very good (NYU Stern, Tilburg, Bocconi, ECB, IMF...) and SSE is ranked 14th in FT business-schools ranking 2008. I really dont know what to do. Need advices...
  6. I think you´re with a big problem bigleaguechew :D It´s very hard to decide when we are accepted in many schools... Anyway it´s a good problem!! ;)
  7. I called the department yesterday and the secretary told me they haven´t made a decision about me yet... So, I´m not accepted/rejected... Still waiting
  8. Treblekicker, thinking about UNC-CH??
  9. Thanks guys You are almost convincing me that I will get a stipend of 15,140 + 500  Anyway I will email the Econ Department :D
  10. I received the following email from the UNC Econ Director of Graduate Students: "The Admission and Funding Committee at UNC was very impressed with your academic record, and the Graduate School should be contacting you shortly to let you know that you have been admitted. The Admissions Committee has also recommended funding and if you think that you would be potentially interested in considering an offer, we will send a letter later this week. (In case you are curious, our offer is for $15,140 plus a $500 bonus for the August math camp, health insurance premiums, and tuition. We support students in good academic standing for five years.).....(continue)" Does it mean a scholarship of $15,640 or only a funding offer for tuition and other costs?? What do you think??

  15. Institution: UNC-CH Program: Economics PhD Decision: Accepted Funding: Decisions by mid-march Notification date: 3/6 Notified through: Letter by E-mail Comments: Dont know what to do... Need to answer to the SSE offer by next Tuesday...
  16. Already asked for an extension... The deadline was today and they extended to next Tuesday...
  17. I have received offers from Stockholm School of Economics, CEMFI, UNC-CH and BC (placed high in waitlist). The SSE offered me 1250 euros/month. A very good money for living in Stockholm. This year the SSE placements were outstanding: Stern-NYU, Tilburg, HEC Paris and Copenhagen. I need to accept/decline their offer by next Tuesday... and I´m still waiting offers from the other schools. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! HELP ME!!
  18. I received that email too. Still waiting...
  19. Yes, how many people they are waitlisting... But the email says: it is quite possible that we will be able to make you such an offer... I think we can expect good news in near future...
  20. Dear ####: The graduate admissions committee has reviewed your application for admissions to the graduate program in economics at Boston College and is favorably disposed. However, because we have so many excellent applicants and limited financial resources of this year, I am unable to offer you admissions or financial aid at this time. On the brighter side, it is quite possible that we will be able to make you such an offer after... For this reason, I have placed you high on a waiting list for admissions and financial aid. Please let me know by e-mail if you wish to remain on this waiting list, and please also be sure to advise me of any changes that may occur in your plans. my very best wishes, ##### :hmm: What do you think??
  21. New UNC-CH acceptances/rejections at gradcafe... I think they will start reporting the decisions... Still in the game!! :boxing:
  22. Uhmmm... thanks to let me know that... No rejections yet... still waiting...
  23. :( Thats bad... But you were notified by mail... I´m not in US, so I still have a chance... And, in past years they admitted candidates by mid-march. UNC-CH website reports that.
  24. Yeah... I´m still waiting the decisions from US, Canada and Netherlands... But, I really dont know... CEMFI or SSE Finance PhD... My fields are Financial Econometrics, Macro, Finance... Both programs fit my profile very well... There is a great interaction between the Econ SSE and Finance SSE departments and with the Stockholm Univ Econ Department. Actually, the Finance and Econ alumns from both centers take almost the same classes... and they send almost all their students to spend 1 sem to 1 year in Top 5 schools... _____________________________________________________ Applyed to: CEMFI, SSE (Econ and Finance), TI, UPF (probably), Univ Toronto, JHU, UNC, MSU, UIUC, BU, WashU, BC.
