  1. Hi all,:D uhm, do you guys have any ideas about this. The topic is kinda strange but it is still in the toefl's form-agree or disagree. Kind of argumentative essay. Write a essay (about 300 words) the following quote. Do you agree or disagree, and why? "The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny...'" (Isaac Asimov) Any ideas are appreciated. Is anyone here interested in science?:D I hope we could discuss about that saying of Asimov. Still, I can't get the point of 'that's funny...'. Do you think he means that discovery is not for our fame but only for our interest in science? Plzzz help me:)
  2. Though many claim that their admission policy are needblind (many here means about 20, just as far as I know:D ), only some do really treat int'l the same as americans. Havard, Willy, Midd... Oh my god, my mind suddenly goes blank. Anyone help?:D
  3. To Nhai, I'm a Vietnamese student like you and this is only my humble opinion. Havard, of course, is a prestigious university and a dream of almost everyone. It's very very difficult to get into but if you can pass all its requirements and stand out of the crowd of talented people like you, you'll get into Havard! Keep dreaming but be down to earth. You should improve your English first and then find out more about the admission process. It is not only the matter of TOEFL or SAT, though they actually count. Do you watch Legally Blonde ?:D Remember that Havard has just admitted one Vietnamese undergrad for the first time. There are still many great university and colleges. Don't let Havard-mania occupy your mind. You should have your safety school. Even if you study in VN, you can transfer or go to Havard as a graduate or to get the doctorate degree. Many people do this, you see? offer should be require! Unfortunately, ETS and the Collegeboard don't allow international students waive the fees. The standardised tests are really costly but they are the REQUIREMENTS. If you don't take them, your profile or app form will not be considered received in full. So you should manage by yourself or ask relatives, friends to help. I don't think that if you have the chance to get access to the Internet, you can't do this. Ah, you should note that scholarships will never cover all the fees like tuition or housing. Again, Havard's admission is needblind, which means that they only consider you academics (and extracurricullar...). Your economic background doesn't AFFECT your chance of admission. So if you're admitted AND you show them that you can't pay the fees, they will help you, I mean, you don't have to pay for anything. BUT, you should look back on your background, this not in terms of ecomomics. I mean your way of thinking, your social background. I come from VN like you, however, I don't really agree with you: Yep! The war' effects are disastrous and many babies born in areas sprayed with Agent Orange had birth defects. I don't understand why you call them "monster". They're human! They only have deformities. You said that that the result will never be over? I don't think so. Do you see Japan? The two atomic bombs cause the results that maybe equal to ours, even somewhat more. But look at the Japanese people. See how they rebuild their country at a breakneck speed, how they forget the past and look to the future? How can they make their country become one of the most developed countries today? What about Iraqi and Afganistan children? Vietnam and the US have regained normality and begun further steps in both diplomatic and economic terms. VN is also going to join the afta and even wto. Economic development has reached the fastest speed than ever. Poverty is being reduced. If you want to be part of this changing and developing country, you must act. I think you should major in economics, in a more specific one like poverty assistance or consider medical schools if you want to do operations for the unfortunate children-the victims of the war. This is just only my thoughts. Hope you understand smt and not get annoyed:D
