Hi, Thanks luma n Mj. luma, For AWA i went through the pool of topics. Though there are many topics in the pool for issues especially, they can be classified into group of topics which can be addressed as one. To illustrate there are many topics on history, government, education, Tech vs culture etc.. by preparing for one of each topics you will take care of nearly 10 similar ones. Site atleast two examples from science, tech, medicine, culture, values, fables, history etc to strenghten your argument. Prepare for instances which are widely applicable for more than a topic. About quants, i just prepared from NOVA, KAPLAN, POW PREP, picked up my +2 books for venn diagram and Probability. Did a lot of graphs, usually tricky and got one wrong each test. finish with the books n stick to CATs. I did a lot of math last 2 weeks. Read each question twice on the test. coz i used to go silly wrong lik...x is asked put y value. unit digit is compared , compared the whole number! such types. Lemme see, i am having this urge to just go for it once again. But genuinely goldust, luma..folks like if your score is above the university requirement then its does'nt matter is it? like purdue says 1200+ will be accepted then 1300, 1200 shouldnt matter?

HI Dioszeus, I too gave my GRE a day before. You were right, 800Q, 430V. got, 1330 (630V),1400 (600V) on power prep. Boy they have made the exam so brilliantly, you don't have the slightest idea how you have performed! there is no certainty! Its was not like we did the verbal without deliberation! :)

Hi, This was my second attempt at GRE. Thanks to recession, after working for six months , i had all the 24 hrs ina day of the last three months to pour into GRE. 1st attempt was an year ago with little over 1000. I dunno why verbal seems elusive. I had done all the words from Barron and Kaplan. Done all the tests from the Kaplan premier CD, Power prep, Barrons and 10 set of verbal from the BB averaged (28/38 without time limit meant 45mins). How can i forget this invaluable forum! power prep test 630V,700Q 600V,800Q Kaplan 610V,700Q 630V,730Q 580V,730Q Barron's Verbal above 560 and math never above 750. ACTUAL 430V,800Q I know my score belies my effort in Verbal I was satisfied with verbal preparation and was worried about math. Two weeks before i had requested for guidance from the group, looking at my consistent bad performance in math. Goldust had advised me that my preparation for math was sufficient and i was just worrying. On the test day the ride to the center was cold, alone on the two wheeler hoping for 1350+, confident. I always imagined writing my GRE experience on this forum but with a different title at least a 1350+. The center echoed with the thud thud of the hammer that workers used to bring down an adjacent building, ears plugs though provided didn't suffice.The AWA was easy, usual topics from the pool, had prepared specific strategies to attack it, justified, complacent. I took the ten min break during which i inquired about the annoying thuds, had some snacks then back with a mission. Down my heart expected verbal but surprise! quants. I started with the first ten, cautious, rechecking for the common mistakes i usually do. The third one had halted me i just guessed, obviously with a little calculation. I came across couple of interesting questions which really didn't require the scratch paper, some encompassed two or more topics. Challenging graphs. I had 15min left for last eight questions, felt i had really done well, given by best shot,took it easy, stretched my hands and legs. Then it happened the monitor went blank, LEDs dimmed, CPU dead. I got tensed started calling for help coz i still had last two questions to go, at last i discovered i had switched off the system during the stretch, my legs had turned the switch down! I was calmed by the center admin and booted from where i had left. Till then the thud thud which rhythmically had caused the building to vibrate had stopped. Now, the verbal, i was chary about doing the 1st ten right as they matter the most. I came across antonym at third one, didnt know the word, guessed, then came analogy, all nouns having strong bridges, cunnt eliminate, just guessed. Then the domino effect, SCs though felt tough,just went with my intuition. SCs are supposed to be my strength. Sitting there i wasn't able to make critical judgments, unable to link the two blanks for couple of SC. Lost 15 min ten questions! RCs werent tought, that doesnt mean i fared well on them, got three of them, the 1st one after the 15th question. Ended with a minute left for 30th question. I had a bitter feeling but thought i was just over reacting, my track record in verbal bolstered me. Took the 5th section an essay. Rushed to accept my score, disappointed, distraught, was none as i have become numb to it.Then it sank in slowly, bitter-sweetness. I am a BTech in Mech from NIT, 9.1/10,8/74 in class, 6 months work Ex in the relevant field , Project under my director, Internship at where i worked after my third year, Industrial Interaction at DRDO, Inter college level papers, no publications or papers in conferences. Now the question is that i seriously am considering to reappear, is it advisable? If yes then which score will be considered? Wont it be a black mark, as in three attempts? Else i can ace it up in TOEFL there nullify my verbal? any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you.

I wasn't able to solve it. I too felt the numbers are misplaced. hence put forth for you guys to analyse the issue.

how did you find number of groups? i m just finding total number btw 9 and 100 included and divided by 2. so it is 100-9+1=92 92/2=46 is it approach correct?

Hi goldust, I have my GRE in a week. i have given couple of mock tests from Kaplan my scores in quant vary from 800-730, verbal 530-630. I am worried bout math as i m gettin 740 arnd on avg. i have prepared math frm nova, kaplan n done brrons test from the book. i m not confident in math after seein questn from parabola and persentile, normal distribution from porwer prep. i want to kno if my prep for math is sufficient or i m worring thereby loosin confidence?

If 'P' is the probability of an event occurring, P* is the probability of not occurring an event and if P>0.5, then Col A: PP* Col B: P Given A = {6, 6, 9,10,14,15} B = {7, 9,10,11,14, 15} Col A: Standard deviation of A Col B: Standard deviation in B when question like this is there 1st i find the mean and then the difference if mean and last digit the one larger greater std dev. but what when equal n asymmetric data ?
