  1. i feel (E) is the answer. Duplication of Facilities to be avoided not Duplicated Facilities, so i feel only (D,E) talks abt this aspect. In (D) While distorts the meaning and also IF only because is Idiomatic.
  2. @Venky I feel u made a mistake in considering (D).. Look at teh comparison it talks abt vehicles powered by Natural gas to those of Diesel and Petrol. So, the comparison "Than Those" fits better than "Than Does" Regards, Pavan
  3. Usage of "Like" & "Such As". Like to say someone similar to it whiel such as is to cite an example. Scientists studied Reptiles which included the Galapagos Tortoise, so it should be Such As; as it is citing it as an example of the the subject of the scientific research and not "like". So, we have (A) , (B) and Scientists have predicted something on the basis of the study of the reptiles sounds far better. I would go with (B)
  4. 1) You Aim for something i.e. to achieve in future and you Aim at something to hit it as a target. So, Aim for is the correct usage and hence (B) is the answer. for 2) I diagree with Venky You dont need The Curfew, coz the Police commissioner imposed a curfew, the unnecessarily makes it a specific noun, The Curfew would mean it is a specific Curfew which is not required and intended, we can go ahead with a curfew coz it is a curfew that has a general effect and no specific consequence or result, So, usage of Definite Article is not advised. Hence i go with ©. No Sooner ... Than sounds better ...
  5. @All, Does Hiring Journalists away from competitors a Correct grammatical construction. How can you Hire someone away from someone, Can anyone make me understand this construction as i feel it is right, i initially went for (D) but felt the above construction is right but am not able to get the head n tail of it. i still feel answer should be (D) but i am lost as i said earlier, getting lost is so funny :p
  6. Here we have two things, Construction wise A,C are similar n B,D are similar. May have Established(Correct) to some extent did establish(Correct), so we need two forms of the the word establish to fulfil the proper structure hence A,C are wrong. Now, we are left with B,D. here the only difference in Could, May.. Should, Could , May is the order and May tells it is a lot uncertain but the writer is confident abt his intuition to a gr8er extent, hence usage of Could is better. So, i would go with (B)
  7. I Feel the answer is (E). In two letters to the historian Tacitus, the nephew of Pliny the Elder wrote the only eyewitness account of the great eruption of Vesuvius Looks a better construction with modifiers at the correct place. The nearest competitor is (A), The nephew of Pliny the Elder wrote the only eyewitness account of the great eruption of Vesuvius in two letters to the historian Tacitus Here, if u see, till Vesuvius the statement is pretty fine but after that we have in two letters to tacitus, this is where i feel a dangling modifier is coming into picture; it is altering the meaning a little.
  8. Pretty Wierd question indeed. Main Statement doesnt mention anything abt managers of the company but B,C,D,E talk abt it :hmm: So, well i had to take a chance on accepting addnl new info abt companies managers determining it and i said fine. Now, look at it, 3-2 rule Devoted Vs Dedicated, we devote time not dedicate time. So, Option (A) n © remain. Now, Look at the sentence beginners, It is Possible to determine Vs It can be determined. I would go with (A) given it has better construction, anyways Wat is the OA.
  9. Well on thing that Manhattan SCG taught me was the difference between "that" & "Which". Here: An economic recession can result from falling employment rates. This sentence is logically complete and has no flaws, so any clause that continues this is giving additional info but it is not needed for the sentence to be grammatically correct. So, "Which" should be used and not "That". And in fact in © even which is not there. :grad: And in © Which refers to falling employment rates, but it can even refer to any preceding noun or action but it is the Lesse Evil among the 5 Options :p Hence i would go with ©
  10. Samarpan, well coming to the query of Weighs n Weighing, Weighing is a Present Participle which should definitely modify an action. while i see it being placed at the start of a clause trying to act as a conjunctive verb or trying to modify the noun in the previous clause, which is not correct usage. So, definitely Weighing is wrong. So, B, E are wrong Also, Which incorrectly modifies World in B,C. We r left A,D. In A the length of which is that of a handheld computer, and it weighs, the "It" refers to camcorder or Handheld Computer; no one knows it. Hence we are left with "D" , and i feel it is the answer and also hope you got the difference between "weighs" & "weighing" Regards, Pavan
  11. Claim From is used when the one who is claiming is after it, Claim from someone that is the right usage.... Hence (A), (B) are ruled out. Claim of, Claim to are also some predominant usages of Claim. Now, look at the main Idea, a firm through a 1 page articles claims that it can assess more than 300 traits. Also Being is 99% of the times wrong in GMATland and it is also here, coz the firm claims of being able to assess traits n published it as a claim in a 1 page article but that one page article is not the basis on which the firm assesses traits. So, (E) is wrong. Left with © & (D) now. You dont claim an ability, u claim of possessin an ability. THis is what is the basic difference in © & (D) n © loses out. Hence (D) is the Answer Also u were not able Hide the answer but we request u to use Spoilers Regards, Pavan
  12. the Agreement was in 1972, n the words here r Reduced n Reduces. Reduced states a past action while reduces is a speculation abt the future which we cannot do as the agreement was signed way back in 1972 and already it should have reduced the amount of phosphate that muncipalitied dump inot gr8 lakes annually. Hope this clrs ur doubt.
  13. Firstly we need to decide on "Evidence Of" and "Evidence That" Evidence Of something is written when u r trying to state something and trying to prove it. Also "calender Stick" is quoted and Basing Them which is plural, so this usage is wrong. (A), (B), © are ruled out coz of the same reason. Coming to (D) n (E) if u have a look @(D), Evidence of Noth Amricans & THeir development. It is trying to say the evidence that calenders provided was even of North americans and their (what is it here ambiguous reference) so these issues rule (D) Out. Hence (E) remains.
  14. Hi Venky, Well ya a thought that is debated by biologists is the thought that life processes are no byproducts of mysterious forces... Hence a seperator was reqd at first place to seperate it from inorganic systems and it modifies the thought of the mechanism school as you said
  15. HI Venky, Here the subject is The thought or teh theory proposed by the mechanism school of thought. so, even it is inorganic systems, we are talking abt the thought which is singular and hence "A Thought" is perfectly alright. also a thought debated by biologists modifies the thought of mechanism school rather than inorganic systems. i hope i am right as well in explaining this
