  1. Well done with improving your score for the speaking exam- I think that will give other people the confidence that they too can can succeed with some expert help and plenty of practice. There are a lot of resources online to help people prepare for the TOEFL and also tips to approach each of the questions. Organization with the answers is key, and good note taking. There are proven formats that you can follow that help to deliver your answers in a clear and concise way. Usually you want to provide- intro- examples - conclusion. It is a good idea to record yourself to make sure your voice comes out clearly and can be understood. Google toeflibt speaking practice and you will find some great resources. Good luck exam takers!

You want to ensure you are well-prepared when you take the IELTS test. There are many different ways one can prepare for the exam. I recommend that my ESL students use a variety of techniques to prepare. It is very important that you practice each module before test day. Online learning works very well for ESL learners who wish to take the IELTS test. This method of learning gives you flexibility and the ease of learning from home. There are a lot of resources available online to help you with your IELTS preparation. I have found this great website with free IELTS Practice Tests for IELTS Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening. In addition to studying the grammar and mechanics of English, you should also try to get exposure to as much “real-world” English as possible. I recommend that my students set a goal to read articles in English newspapers every day. In addition, listening to spoken English will help you build on your skills. You can find podcasts of radio programs at websites for NPR or the BBC. I recently found a great website that has podcasts with written words, so students can listen and read the words at the same time: http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/podcast.html Doing these two things will expose you to the structure of the language and new vocabulary. As an added benefit, being well-versed in current event topics may give you some inspiration for your essay. I have been working on tips for taking the IELTS exam. Check out my tips for IELTS test preparation and let me know what you think!
  3. The first one is correct. You would say: Paul lives in Berlin now. He likes living there. Here is an example sentence on a similar topic where you would use “to live”: Paul just visited Berlin. He would like to live there someday!
  4. The best way to improve your listening score is to practice. When doing IELTS coaching, I always tell my students to practice as much as possible. A great, easily accessible way to practice is to listen to podcasts in English, such as those available on NPR and the BBC. Also the experience you gain with current topics can help you on the writing module of the exam. I hope this is helpful. I am putting together some tips for the IELTS Listening Exam. Check them out and let me know what you think!
  5. Hi, In both of the sentences above, the word used should be “of”. I believe the “off” in the second sentence is simply a typographical error. Both sentences should use the phrase “taken care of”. I hope this helps!
  6. Hi Anita, The way this sentence is written implies that the cold Boston weather has been living in the south. A clearer way to write this would be: Having lived in the south all of my life, I found the cold Boston weather shocking at first. I hope this helps!
  7. The words “convince” and “persuade”, are quite similar in their definition and usage. The main difference between the two is that “convince” is used when one wants to change someone’s opinion about something. Whereas “persuade” is used when one is trying get another to take a certain action. Here are two examples of the correct usage: I tried to convince him that riding a roller coaster is fun. I tried to persuade him to ride the roller coaster. In everyday spoken English, however, these two words are often used interchangeably.
