economics is spot on. I am gay and just asking out of curiosity. In particular, curiosity as to whether I've picked a profession that is less gay-friendly than average. For straight people who think it is a non-issue, I probably feel the way you would at an all-gay department.
As for your last point, though, economics, that is to be expected... If there were more gay than female economists, that would be remarkable!
Matthew Rabin's website is a lot of fun, though, and makes me think that being gay in economics is no problem at all.
