  1. How many here, got by their first year in Micro just using class lectures? I find that I learn 100 times more in class then reading MWG. Is this a bad sign?
  2. I put 'easy' in quotes because it is all relative. The reason I ask is when I spoke to MIT they made it clear (and thewhiterabbit) confirmed that their class was for Econ/Fin PhD students only while Harvard's is for those and people at the Kennedy School, and non-finance from HBS. Therefore, it seemed like Harvard was the call. I am not saying either is easy but one is probably easier and less mathy than the other. All things equal if I get an A- in either I will be in good shape when I apply next year but my question is can I get this with 30 hours in one versus 35 in the other. I am not looking for a free ride.
  3. My decision so it can be paid for is due in a few weeks so any insight will help
  4. Work is paying, so I am looking for the 'easier' and less mathy of the two. I have prereqs for both.
  5. I mean the course, BTW.
  6. BC, I don't think it is even a question.
  7. Harvard versus MIT econometrics, what are the major differences? I am at a Cambridge econ group and may take one next semester.
  8. My message may have been read wrong. So I received a harsh response when I asked for feedback. One professor at the school last year wrote, "I do research, I do not give feedback to all of my students nevermind rejected applicants" So when I say I responded back with a reworded version I meant of the rejection letter you know the standard "This year was typically competitive and this decision does not reflect at all on your skills but just in this year's remarkable competition..." Not the harsh response. I didn't in anyway say anything mean, crude, disrespectful, etc. If that is a burnt bridge, then wow.
  9. Last year I received admission to some top 75 programs for a finance phd and I received some good feedback from a couple top 10-15 programs so I reapplied. However, I will not mention any names, one top 40 programs were pretty harsh to me when I asked for feedback last year. Because of the good feedback from the top 10-15 I worked on what they pointed out and reapplied and got into three of the top 15 programs and one of the top 40 programs, along with some others from 15-75. The treatment by the top 40 program still makes me mad, even though if I got into none ranked above I would have gone this year :D. But, when I received admission, and took them out of contention I replied to the now eager phd faculty with the same response they sent to me (editing to make sense of course). This prompted one professor to e-mail back and say, "I like your wording, I think I have seen that before. Keep your humor, the first two years of a phd are tough. Good luck." He seems to have enjoyed it at least. Just wanted to share.
  10. Is it me or is the Power Prep Verbal REALLY hard? Can someone tell me if the real verbal is even a little easier? I have memorized about 1000 words and I need to take the GRE soon. I have seen such variance in my Verbal score, from 550 to 680, in practice that it makes me think I should just take the test and if I think I bombed it cancel the scores. I need to take by Nov 15 so I have two tries in me and I don't mind paying. Is this a stupid idea? Any and all suggestions welcomed

  12. It is mostly as stated above. I got waitlisted at a few top programs so to get that close and have to settle makes me uneasy. If I was outright rejected I would be more than ok with a top 75. This is what makes me think I should take it being that I can see myself taking it but it is such a hard decision.
  13. To easily answer the question I was waitlited and then rejected at 3 top 15! So if I was outright rejected I would have no problem going to the lower programs I was accepted in. Since I took away got criticism from my waitlists I feel like I should apply it and then try again, but I want to make sure that this seems like a good course of action.
  14. Will next year be worse? Meaning is it smarter to take one of my top 75 admits for finance PhD or wait until next year and try again? Some top 15 programs have given me some things to fix such as taking some math classes and doing well. As I am international they also said they would like to see my GRE Verbal score rise, but the first things are most important.
  15. I did a lot of research on the site and the responses were very general in nature. So anyone with some specific help would be appreciated.
