  1. Is there anyone coming in late (11pm-ish) on Thursday night that wants to share a shuttle/taxi with me? Wish I could come earlier but my work schedule doesn't allow me to.
  2. For those waiting on Columbia (if there is still anyone waiting), if you have not heard by now, it means rejection. I called and was told so.
  3. Institution: JHU Program: Economics PhD Decision: Waitlist Funding: N/A Notification date: 03/09/2011 Notified through: Email with attached letter dated 3/8 Posted on GC: no Comment: oh well. the letter says 90% of applicants were rejected. the letter is very brief with no indication of when they will get back, funding if admitted etc... does not bode well.
  4. just got this from a friend who is flying out to Ann Arbor for another program. Her program at Michigan does everything for her (booking flights and shuttle bus): "The bus company that transports to UMichigan is Select Ride and the phone number that I have for them is 734-663-8898" on their website: Select Ride Airport Shuttle services the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area to and from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
  5. also a waitlist but I think I'm going too! if you're flying, how are you guys getting from Detroit to Ann Arbor?
  6. Institution: UMich Program: PhD Economics Decision: waitlisted Funding: if admitted: 1st year tuition + insurance, 2nd-4th: tuition, TA, insurance. Notification date: 3/3/2011 Notified through: E-mail with attachment. Posted on GC: no Comments: From what I understand from the letter, it meant admitted but they have budget constraint this year so they cannot admit yet. (they said last year they admitted everybody who were recommended for admission). Flyout on March 18 with travel reimbursement.
  7. Has anyone heard from Cornell AEM? Either good or bad or waitlist? Their website says "New Graduate Student Visit, Friday, March 11, 2011. The day's itinerary will be emailed to all admitted students." I called yesterday and was told some decisions are coming out but not all of them. They will send decisions by email. Considering that March 11 is 2 weeks away and that I have not received anything, I was sadly wondering if I am out ... (though i am holding on to a tiny tiny hope)
  8. kt253, Go to the page where you applied online --> ASF --> 1. Verify contact information. You'll see the UID.
  9. next to the most recent Harvard edit on GC is these Chinese: 的傻逼,哈哈,气死你们 google translate tells me "The sucker, ha ha, you mad" ok guys, it's time to confirm that there seems to be some dude who is a complete loser out there who has nothing else to do and makes fake posts there. And time to call it a week. Monday is a holiday so sleep well until Tuesday.
  10. If those emails are sent manually, I think we should call it a day for Yale cuz it's already past 6pm EST and I guess the admission office has gone home to feed their kids and do other things better rather than sitting in the office (like me in my cube right now). If those emails are sent automatically (based on fromthehip + frozenchip's info of 5pm EST), no acceptance email as of now = no acceptance email. I'm trying to settle with the idea that I'm out and move on.
  11. Although it is similar to my situation and the admission lady said ok and told me to write a letter, I wouldn't feel comfortable to tell you to believe me without checking with Duke. Why don't you call Duke yourself and explain your situation?
  12. I asked a current international PhD student at Duke. The suggestion is to write a short letter explaining why you should be waived (you went to college in the U.S or England etc). Good luck.
  13. Yes. A friend of mine applied last year, indeed forgot to indicate in the system that she waived her right. Prof sent email back asking her to click "Yes" on that option, saying that it's his policy.
  14. is anybody also filling out Berkeley's application and feeling puzzled as I am now? In one question where you have to put names of faculty members you want to do research with: It's nice that they give 8 choices but it's weird that the space for "Why in this order?" SO LITTLE! It's exactly 60 characters. I can barely explain anything meaningful. Would I sound superficial by saying "I am most interested in ", "My secondary interest is ", "My third interest is "? Anyone in the same situation? what would you do?
