1. The number of Econometric society fellow may be a good indicator of how strong the department is. PSU have 7 fellows, among which 5 are active. While, both Austin and BC have 2 active ones.
2. There are several job market stars recently at PSU. This year, they flyout people to Booth, Upenn, Columbia and other good places. But if you take a close look, you will find only those who specialize in Micro theory have marked good records, not for econometrics unfortunately.
All in all, PSU dominates both BC and Austion. Only if you have very very specific research interests in econometrics and you could find someone at BC or Austin to advise you in this field(e.g. quantile regression expert Zhijiao Xiao at BC), you should give some credits to these two.
