Can you please tell me which one of the following two cases will be more persuasive and appealing to the PhD admission committee, especially to the top 25 US schools Both students are undergrad and wanna apply to PhD A person with 1 and half years undergrad part time Research Assistantship and written 3 papers during RA and have then written 4 papers independently. Other person have written 7 papers without Research Assistantship and without any guidance, support and funding? Thanks for your time.

Kindly evaluate my profile for MS and PhD at US and Canadian and suggest me some universities to which I should apply for. My field of interest is Information Security and Cryptography (Computer Science department). Any help would be appreciated. I have done B.Sc. Electrical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan with CGPA of 3.54/4.00 (ranked 6th in batch of 114). Will my low gpa creates problems for me to get admission in top ten schools, despite my otherwise good profile? My GRE Scores are Total: 1350 (Quantitative: 750, Verbal: 600, AWA: 4) I have given TOEFL and waiting for result Currently I am Lecturer in Department of Computer Science at IQRA University, Peshawar teaching subjects in which I want to purse my Masters and PhD. I was Research Assistant at University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan for 1 and half years. I have also done one year R&D project with government of our province here in Pakistan (though not related to field which I want to pursue). I have 7 research papers in international journals and conferences, all publications in field of interest. (3 papers as single author, 3 papers as first author and one paper as second author). I also have 5 Juniper networks certifications also related to my field of interest. I have done non-research internships at Alcatel-Lucent (Country Head office), Nokia Siemens Networks and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited. Its like may be MS in Information Security might not be famous program of G Tech than MS in Computer Science Can you please help me for which one I should go for.

@CalmLogic NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi and my university in Peshawar are same level government universities in two different provinces. Recently, our university alumini went to GA Tech. People usually got admission in George Washington University and University of Maryland at College Park as our university have MOU with them. My research advisor have also done his PhD from George Washington University. Some other graduates of my university also have landed in good schools in US. Basically I am aiming for top 5 schools MIT, Stanford etc. Do you think my low GPA (3.53/4.00) or GRE score will hinder my admission in these schools and can you tell what I can do to improve my profile. Like more research and hence research publications? Give GRE again to improve my score (specially Quant)? Also tell me about my chance at MIT if I have one year expereince as RA(Research Assistant) in NUST(the most respectful university of our country and 350th in overall world ranking). Naveed

I have all of my publications in Information Security that is a specialization of CS. I have studied Data Structures and programming in my undergrad. All of my research is also in the same field. I have many certifications in computer network and computer networks security. I am also pursuing sun solaris certifications (SCSA and SCNA) and Java certification (SCJP). I have extensively used Linux. I am already Cisco Certified Network Associate and Cisco Certified Network Associate - Security. So, I am not changing my field and perhaps Computer Science programs doesn't require major of CS in undergrad. So just take my profile like I have done undergrad in CS and the evaluate it.
