  1. Topic : Some people believe that a college university education should be available to all students. Others believe that higher education should be available only to good students. Discuss these views. Which view do you agree with? Explain why. College is a place where people go to increase their knowledge, to prepare for a future career, to get a new experience, to meet new people. While over the past few decades, education was still far for many people, nowadays anybody can receive education. However, some people think that higher education should be available only to good students. Others believe that a college university education should be available to all students. But in my point of view it is necessary that the schools and colleges are available for all students whether they are good or bad. The following essay will express two reasons that support my opinion. First of all, higher education plays an important role for all the students. College is considered as a society where students have chance to experience before entering real society. People go to a college not only to acquire useful knowledge but also to accumulate interpersonal methods and experience. They learn how to take care of themselves. Besides, they learn how to co-operate and communicate with each other with many persons. Thanks to that, after graduation, people may get good job and especially become more mature and self-confident when facing to obstacles in their life. Finally, it is not certain that a good student in high school will be good in further education. Studying in university is absolutely different from that in high school. It requires student to have flexible studying method. Students need to spend much time on self-studying, while teachers just play small role. Therefore, not students can adapt to new studying environment. And, there is not promise that every good student going to a college will graduate successfully. Nam, my close friend, is a good example. He was an excellent student in high school and he rolled in the university with a very high score. However, he always was absent and indulged himself in drinking. He failed to pass exams. Subsequently, he had to dropt out. Thus, in this case, higher education is not benefit to a good student. In conclusion, higher education plays an important role in one’s life. All students have the right to study in a college or university. It is important that how people study to attain success in living.
  2. Topic: The mass media, including TV, radio and newspapers, have great influence in shaping people's ideas. To what extent do you agree or disagree this statement? Give reasons for your answer. We are living in a society where all kind of mass media, including TV, radio and newspapers, play important roles in our modern life. They have changed our life very much. There are many views express that the mass media have great influence in shaping people's ideas. Do really public mass media could affect people minds? And if it does, how strong this influence? This essay will explain my argument about these questions. I think that everything around us has influence on our behavior and life. Mass media, besides providing us useful information and entertainment, has a great influence in shaping people's ideas, both for the better and for the worse. Firstly, it is accepted that mass media affect our fashion. Simply take a glance at the way the young dress nowadays. What they are wearing may look similar to what famous actors or singers have worn recently. And all of the things they often to is to imitate the models appear every day in fashion shows. It was probably something they pick up over the internet, television and magazines. Secondly, it is obvious that the mass media have an effect on our attitude in life. Nowadays people, especially the young, tend to be lazier and more violent. This is simply the result of bad programs shown on T.V all time, uncontrollable websites and even the carelessness of parents. They can spend whole day surfing internet or watching TV instead of studying or traveling with family and friends… People, especially teenagers, always have an idol and they tend to follow what their idols do and say no matter these things are good or bad. For example, a Japanese guy got married to a game character in November, 2009. Or, many women got cosmetic surgeries to look like their idols. Seriously, some people are ready to kill a person just because they want to become a movie character. Finally, we can not deny that the mass media have a great contribution to shaping our ways of thinking. What we watch on TV; what we listen to on radio; what we read in newspaper and magazine affect a great deal to our thinking. Does food advertisement on TV affect your choice? Does information about universities on newspaper make you embarrassed to decide the best one for you child? I definitely believe the answer will be "yes" because these information influenced on your thought and ruled your decisions. In short, mass media undoubtedly affect our life style and opinions. We could not fade its influence away. However we could control it by thinking carefully before deciding when approaching information through the mass media.
