  1. Hi Everyone, I'm about to start mathcamp in 3 weeks. What are the critical chapters from Simon & Blume that I should know by then? Or framed differently, can you group the chapters from Simon & Blume into "Absolutely critical" "important" and "not so important" -- thanks!
  2. I found these useful: The Daily Drool remember that everyone knows about these, so avoid deep "inspiration" :)
  3. is there a nice online (free) course for topology and real analysis that people here have used an found useful?
  4. Heidi Williams is a recent grad student who worked on health -- and she has a nice health paper with : Douglas Almond, Joseph Doyle, and Amanda Kowalski. (http://www.nber.org/~heidiw/papers/qje2010.pdf) You should check them out, not that i personally know if they work a lot with grad students.
  5. my private goods are public for you.
  6. Apply to both Finance and Econ. If you get into both places of similar rankings then choose Finance (the job market, the stipends, prof. time etc are all much much better) -- if you get into a top econ and a not-so-top Finance, your profs will help you think that through, but make that decision later.
  7. I think you should be all right without the econ stuff - but the finance guys here will give you a better idea. What will really matter is the grades in your math courses and LoRs -- I'm assuming you will get them from your profs at UoC? That could help a LOT!
  8. I think you had a good if not great profile. Now as yangyang2000 said you should work on nailing down the SOP in terms of specific research interests and matching them to potential departments and you should be good to go! I don't think you r age is going to be an issue and I definitely think you stand a chance at these schools, but it is possible that you might NOT get accepted to any of them. As long as you apply to ALL the big names (including Kellogg, Columbia, NYU, HBS, Stanford. MIT, Berkeley, etc etc) you should feel unlucky if you dont get into any of them. But it has happened before, so dont forget the A minus schools either.
  9. So what department do you want to apply to? If you are interested in stuff like marketing in online markets etc, then you should just apply to Marketing departments and state your interests. No need to frame it as "IS in Marketing".
  10. I think bottom line, if you want to "sleep easy" and not worry about the GMAT, get a 750+ for a top 5/10 school and 700+ for a top 25.
  11. you should Pm View Profile: Ancalagon The Black - Urch Forums -- he knows the field pretty well and is going to the Cornell IS program.
  12. Haas has a program in Real Estate and so do a few other schools (i think). You should check them out.
