  3. Hi Debbie... I didn't get my results but I think they're on there way. When did you take your exam?? I check everyday on the BOP website. I found good news today.... Check this out: http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/applicants/release_of_scores.pdf I feel sick to my stomach every time I think of what my results could be... Wish you best of luck :)
  4. How can it be 20mls??? For double strength it should be 40mls... This is how I worked it out... For double strength it is 800mg per 250mls... so it is 1600mg in 500mls... If a 1 ml in vial has 40 mg then x mls will have 1600mg so x= 1600/40= 40mls is required to be injected in 500ml in IV bag....
  5. Thankyou April2010.... I changed it :)
  6. Passing the 'Speaking Section' made EASIER (1) You do not get deducted for short pauses, one or to hmmm's or even accent! Even though a good accent is a plus, but it is not necessary to achieve an excellent score. (2) Fluency is important but you have to put in mind not to be too quick nor to slow. Be moderate so that u won't lose alot of time without making ur points clear and full because you were too slow. Also, being too quick results in more mistakes, unclear language and maybe even you'll finish your reply before time. (3) If you've finished you reply 10 seconds for example before the time is over, try to fill in something. But if you are sure that you're answer was full so it's better not to fill in bcoz it's better to finish before time than not to finish before the beep. ( P.S It happened to me, so this is from personal experience). (4) I recommend you to practice by reading or listening to the question then answering while recording your answer. Doing this allows you to know if your tone sounds confident, clear and what kinds of errors you keep doing. You've got to also time yourself. Timing is very important here, you MUST time over and over again. This will help you know how many points you can make within a specific period of time, and how much you can actually talk. I'll post a couple of links. They are EXCELLENT. Only one week's practice on my own using the key points given by the first four links, and listening to model answers made by the samples helped me achieve 28 on my listening section. I recommend you to watch these links first by professor Joseph... They will show you how to give a model answer. How to answer q. 1&2 How to answer q. 3 How to answer q. 4 YouTube - TOEFL Speaking Improve your Score on Question 6 How to answer q. 5 The links I'll post now are MODEL answers to similar types of questions you may face in your TOEFL exam. I advise you to listen to the question, time urself and record your answer. At the end, listen to the model answer to get extra ideas on the subject (which you may face in a writing section). question 1 (9 samples) question 2 sample answers question 2 (9 samples) question 3 (4samples) question 3 part 2 (4samples) question 4 (3 samples) question 4 part 2 (3 samples) question 4 part 3 (3 samples) question 5 part 1 (4 samples) question 5 part 2 (4 samples) question 6 part 1 (4 samples) question 6 part 2 (3 samples) TOEFL final test 01 TOEFL final test 02 Speaking tasks 02 Speaking tasks 2008 Practice makes perfect. I did it. Many people did it. YOU can do it. Please let me know if you need anything. Good luck to all of you! N.B I owe these forums alot. And now it's my turn to return all the help I got back :)

  8. Essay #5 (Discuss your favorite book) My favorite book is 'Prince Caspian' written by the author C. S. Lewis. It is one of seven fantasy books titled 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. I deliberately and briefly will write down a quick review of the book's story to clarify why I consider this book as my favorite. The book is briefly about Narnia, a land full of talking animals, dwarfs and other creatures which where invaded by a human race called the telmarines. The telmarines pushed the old Narnians back to the wilderness. On the other side of the story, Prince Caspian's uncle Miraz tried to kill Caspian in attempt to make his son become the only heir to the telmarines throne. Four children who were transported somehow to Narnia were previous Narnian kings and queens. They greatly aided Prince Caspian to restore his throne, alongside the Old Narnians and Aslan, a talking lion. Aslan, in the chronicles, is an indirect symbol of God. My first reason for admiring this book is that it is fit to be read by both adults and children. Even though this book is considered as a child's novel but it is undoubtedly enjoyable to people of any age. In addition, it was introduced to the movie industry and made a hit in the box office. Second, it uses wild imagination. The book uses detailed description in a very interesting way. It describes anything and everything starting from nature and conversations to battle grounds. Once you start reading, it is very difficult to stop flipping from one page to the next. The story's events are well written in an easy and orderly fashion. The sequence of events are logical and at many times, thrilling. For these reasons, I consider Prince Caspian as one of my favorite books. Moreover, I would advise any parent to use this book and any book from this sequel to his/her advantage for their children's bedtime stories.
  9. Essay #4 Grading is an international method used to evaluate any student's preformance in one or many subjects. It is reliable and important to keep track of whether a student is improving or deteriorating. However, I refuse to agree that this system will encourage students to learn. I justify my opinion in the paragraphs below. Initially, many teachers use the grading system to push students to study. Many parents may encourage their children when they get good grades. In contrast, teachers tend to scold students who are not achieving good grades and parents at home punish their children for scoring badly. This attitude towards the grading system has disrupted the real meaning of learning. So grading forced people to acquire the 'habit' of studying rather than doing it for their own good. People who develop this habit will refuse to learn when they can, rather than wanting to achieve more knowledge. Second, a home offers a huge contribution to a student's learning. Homes that supervise their children's school work and grades have a better of chance to having keen learners. Psychologically speaking, children who start of school with high scores develop independent personalities and are keener to learn than those who scored less. The family is responsible to follow-up with their child's grades especially during the early school years. Finally, any student must be taught to develop the sense of responsibility. This trains the student to study whether there is or there isn't an exam. Studying is not about achieving exceptional scores only but it is, however, self-teaching. Furthermore, studying is only a preview of knowledge that will be essentially needed in the future either for professional use or general use, as in daily discussions. Overall, even though grades are essential to evaluate students' knowledge but from my point of view I don't think they do encourage students to learn. Everyday each and everyone of us tends to learn something new without being graded. We do it because we want to and not because we have to.
  10. Essay #3 I agree that being able to speak well is better than being able to write well. I support my choice by stating social, psychological and academic explanations. First, talking well is important socially. People develop first impressions about one another by how they look, dress and talk. The way a person speaks differs from one situation to another, for example people talk formally while at home they talk casually. Furthermore, workplaces would rather hire a good speaker than a writer. It is essential to be a smart talker in a workplace to attract customer attention such as needed in salespeople, tour guides and in customer service. Second, it is psychologically distressing not being able to communicate with the society around a person who is not able to speak well. People who do not speak well are not necessarily non-educated. Many people are not able to translate feelings or thoughts in to words. This deficiency in communication provides the person with a sense of loneliness and alienation. Finally, it is academically important to be able to speak well. Many subjects in school, such as mathematics, chemistry and physics do not require good written language. They may require your ability to converse and inquire rather than to write. Students who are not able to talk fluently may not be able to transfer queries from their own tests, and maybe even class work to their teachers. All in all, due to the aforementioned reasons I believe that talking is an essential and invaluable tool. Being able to communicate is important to maintain the well-being of an individual within the society simply because it is a daily activity. A man without the ability to talk is like a writer without a pen to write!
  11. Essay #2 People attend school for many different reasons (for example, expanded knowledge, societal awareness, and enhanced interpersonal relationships). Why do you think people decide to go to school? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Many parents look forward to having their children continue their education. Many people may not continue their education. On the other hand, many prefer to... but why? A lot of people may support their decision by academic, social and professional reasons. First, some people are interested in learning more. Psychologically speaking, it makes them feel better when they're able to converse smoothly with educated people. As it is said, knowledge brightens the mind. Many students enroll to schools putting in mind that learning is the key to a bright future ahead. They work really hard, to achieve more knowledge and higher grades. Furthermore, some of those students may go even beyond having certain degrees such as bachelor degrees, to earn higher certificates as master degrees. They do it because they want it. Second, many people, that may even be a majority, look forward to the social life offered by schools or colleges. Schools only provide a less magnified society, in comparison to the huge society, that many may face later in their life. They start maturing in the way they should communicate with people because they get to learn how to work in teams offered by many projects in school. Furthermore, many of the students who live in dormitories learn to become independent and self- dependant. For example, they have to make their own food, do their laundry and clean their room because mommy is not there to do it for them, anymore. Finally, learning more means working in a better position in a better firm or company. Educated people have a better of chance obtaining higher salaries and becoming more respected by the society and even, family members. They choose what to work and are not obliged to make a decision because of the fear of not finding another. I believe for the reasons I abovementioned, many students would like to attend schools.
  12. Essay #1 Nowadays, with the invention of the microwave and with the popularity of fast food restaurants, food has become easier to prepare than ever. Do you think microwave ovens and fast food restaurants are beneficial to society? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Although one has to admit that microwave ovens and fast food restaurants are easy, quick and are a reliable way to make or obtain food but I do not think that they are beneficial to society. I justify myself below. Initially, fast food contains a high content of fats and saturated lipids. This contributes to many medical conditions suffered by many people in our society today such as obesity, blood pressure and heart diseases. Although, people are aware of this harm caused by fast food, they still choose to eat it. The speed of obtaining food from fast food chains is especially a very important reason of why people consume it. For example, for workers the lunch break is an hour, therefore workers prefer enjoying their meal in a nearby restaurant rather than driving all the way back home to eat. In addition, food preserved to be cooked in microwave ovens are usually conserved by using food preservatives. Although, many of these preservatives are FDA approved but alas, many researchers are connecting vicious diseases such as cancer to preservative use. Also, eating in fast food restaurants has somehow erased the importance of family gatherings at the dinner table. Many parents are struggling with this issue as they believe that this is a very important moment to connect. Members of the family are busy during the day in school or working and so this is quite a crucial moment of the day. Furthermore, working mothers now find it very easy to cook ready cooked food in microwave ovens since they haven't the time or energy to spend time cooking healthier food. This causes children to obtain an unbalanced, unhealthy nutrition which may affect their health later on in life. I believe that anything used in moderation is correctly used but, unfortunately, that's not how people do it. People prefer what makes their life easier to live and food quicker to finish which explains why many people overuse these facilities.
  13. Hi guys... For those who do not know. Because of God's glory, I passed TOEFL from the first time with high scores. Listening 29, Speaking 28, Reading and writing 25. In the writing section, their are two parts. My first part ( Integrated writing) is the reason why I got 25. As you know, integrated writing needs you to read an article and then you get to hear a lecturer refuting the article. I had to write 3 points but unfortunately, I missed 2 important points because I got distracted by one of the fellow students taking the exam during the listening ( He kept sneezing). However, I recovered by writing what I THOUGHT I heard to show that I have good command of vocabulary and grammar. Therefore, I didn't fail Part 1 but actually scored 3/5 even though I wrote ONE point out of three. Moreover, because of God's grace, I received almost a full mark (according to the score report) in part 2. I am sharing my TOEFL experience to encourage you to NEVER give up and try your best. This is what THEY want. Many ppl msged me on forums and sent me private messages asking for help. Well, I had many essays ( some of which I lost) that I wrote during practicing my timing. They are all Part 2 essay questions/answers. I'll post all I can from one time to another... Below I'll post what I have on one of my computers. Before the exam, you MUST practice your timing. It is VERY essential to do that since the time of each section is just enough to complete your assignment. Later, I'll discuss the type of essay questions and HOW to answer them. For now, I will send you some of my essays. If you have any questions regarding the essay... please feel free to ask :)

  15. Hey everybody... this is not my first post but my username got deleted sometime ago wn something went wrong with the forum or site... Well, for all those anxious ppl taking the test in October... don't worry at all. The exam was NOT that difficult. Actually, many of the questions were so so straight forward. The management section was all about you using ur mind... I studied from the following books: Lipincott's pharmacology, Theory (not all of it) & Manan Shroff's management & 1000 questions. Don't spend alot of time on management. Study pharmacology REALLLLLY well. For my score I got 109. I studied for less than 3 months. I started with CPR (HORRIBLE start) but from my experience DO NOT study from CPR now. I stopped because it's full of details that can confuse u especially during the test. Ur mind will be so full of info that u won't be able to remember the info u want for the question. HOWEVER u can study sterilization from CPR and structural formulas if u want. Lipincott is to the point & concise. CPR is too much (except for the uses I mentioned) bcoz it is for NAPLEX test & if u do not blv me then you can check the back cover of the book. It says NAPLEX! By the way.... my temperature on the day of the exam was 40 degrees celsius & I was so so sick. I was in bed with a temp more than 40 for two days before the exam. Do pre-FPGEE... it gives u an idea about ur score range: I got 102 in my pre. Any questions please post it & I'll answer as soon as I can. Most importantly... PRAY PRAY PRAY... It's God who gave me success & not I. I just tried & He blessed. Goodluck all....
