1. Hi All , Please solve following database questions , 1. Given two sets , A: {15,16,17,18,19} and B : {8,9,10,11,12,13,14}. If C = A + B , then how many distinct values are possible for C ? In above question , what is does it mean to add A and B (A+B) ? Is it union operation ? 2. If x Col A : Standard Deviation of 1,2,x Col B : Standard Deviation of 1,2,1 3. If x Col A : Mean Deviation of 1,2,x Col B : Mean Deviation of 1,2,1 Is there any shortcut technique to solve 2nd and 3rd questions ? -Swapnil
2. @kittykatz The answer can be 4 , if we think of creating triangles with two sides formed by sides of quadrilateral and adding a side by our own. But the question is not stating such condition , so the number of triangles could be infinite as you said. I think the question is very vague and most probably incomplete.
3. Find the number of right angled triangles that can be drawn in a quadrilateral of which none of the sides are parallel and equal? I could think of 4 such right angled triangles. Is there any possibility of more than this ?
4. Hi All , I have a doubt about usage of Quotes from great people in Issue Analysis. In the issue analysis , if we remember some quotes from the expert authors , philosophers or scientists , but if we are not able to reproduce them word to word , will it be fine to paraphrase them with the mention that I am paraphrasing the quote ? Is paraphrasing recommendable or it may have negative effects on our score? Please help me to solve above query.
5. Thanks Paul ! got the point !!
6. I am well aware of the fact the only positive square roots of a number are considered in the purview of GRE Maths. But I found some confusing questions in the ETS POWERPREP Quant Test. The questions are attached and correct options as per POWERPREP are marked : If the images are not visible , please click them to open. For first question , answer should be A if we neglect negative root of 16. I found last two questions basically similar and answer to first question as four is correct if we neglect negative square roots. But second question is confusing as the answer I expected was five. Please confirm the answers for these question and also correct me , if the answer suggested by me are wrong.
7. x + 2y = 2 .........(I) (x + y)2 = 9 hence (x + y) = + / - 3 i.e. x + y = 3 .......(II) OR x + y = -3 .......(III) Solving I and II , y = -1 Solving I and III , y = 5 So possible value for y is 5 and answer is E.
8. Hi All , One of the recent database question is : A person travels first 2 hrs of his journey at 55 miles/hr and next 2.2 hrs of his journey at 65 miles/hr to reach his destination. On his return journey, if he travels at 50 miles/hr then how much extra time would he take to reach back? We can solve this question considering the time given as 2.2 on decimal scale and get the answer as 0.86 like : Total distance = (2* 55) + (2.2 * 65) = 110 + 143 = 253 and return journey time = 253 / 50 = 5.06 hence extra time needed = 5.06 - (2 + 2.2) = 0.86 But , how can we assume the time given 2.2 as on decimal scale. It can also mean 2 hours 12 minutes (2.2 = 2 hours 2/10 minutes = 2 hours 12 /60 minutes). In this case answer would be different ? kindly solve my query and let me know if there is standard laid by ETS for considering time or any other quantity conversion ?
