  1. dear erin and friends, please read my essay and comment I do agree that hard work plays an important role in a person’s success. Work is something a person learns, experiments and gets results. Hard work is putting in more effort and succeeding in getting better results than expected. Hard work and determination and persistence are needed to succeed in life. As many people say, success is 99% hard work and 1% luck. It’s very difficult to generalize. In every success story people like to say there is both hard work and luck. I believe its more of hard work than luck. Firstly, hard work plays a pivotal role in a success story. With out acquiring knowledge or know-how about a thing, be it business, study, work etc one cannot expect things to happen. We cannot just wait for luck to get us work, house car etc, we have to work very hard to get these things. There is no magic wand called luck or Aladdin’s lamp to get everything we wish for or need. There is no substitute for hard work. For example, Bill Gates, CEO Micro Soft, had dropped out of Stan Ford to start his company. Now, he could not have done that just believing in luck. He knew or rather had an idea what he was getting into. People like to believe he was the “Right man at the Right place at the Right time”. Secondly, it is only about lottery and gambling people can talk in terms of luck. It is difficult to explain these as work. No person who works five days a week and goes through all the difficulties associated with his work can talk about luck playing a role in his life. Sometimes people get their wishes very easily and are branded lucky. But, once they get there they cannot let luck do their job. For instance a sports man gets into a national team. Even though people know his capabilities they say he was lucky to get into the team. But once the game begins it’s the sportsman’s hard work that shows on the field. He cannot depend on his luck. To conclude it is hard work all the way that plays an important role in success. Time and again famous people have proved that hard work only pays. There is no such thing as luck. There are a lot of people who blame their luck when they fail. Only for such people luck exists.
  2. From the day man had to hunt for food, cook it on an open fire to today when all we have to do is open a can or a frozen packet and can be cooked in 5 to 10 minutes (microwave) we have come a long way in saving time, but has it improved the way we live the answer is NO. The reason being what we gain as time we lose in health. I will state the reasons. In this busy and break neck speed life people neither have the time nor inclination to spend a lot of time cooking from scratch. They tend to become short order cooks. But in all this effort to save time we forget that processed and pre cooked food which may be easy to cook but they are not the best to eat. During processing and other methods employed in preparing these foods lot of important vitamins and minerals are lost. As it is due to the usage of pesticides and other growing procedures even the fresh foods are not really all that healthy. The foods are high in calories; high in fat, cholesterol, sugar salt etc. these are added to make food tastier. These lead to a lot of disease like heart, cancers, obesity, blood sugar, and blood pressure. These are killing people. People tend to eat snacks like French fries, pizzas that make them obese, lethargic and lead to other related problems. Actually there are many benefits to cooking. It really helps in relieving stress; it gives us time to reflect upon the day we spent. People forget that cooking is an art. The simple pleasure of cooking fresh food and laying table for a person whom we love is definitely one should not miss. I enjoy cooking, I may need to spend time but it definitely saves my loved ones. I realize I’m giving very nutritious food. I don’t think life becomes easier just because we spend less time to cook. There are many other ways to save time. The harmful affects out weigh the advantage of time. To sum up I think people should take advantage of the time you get for yourself and the health of the family instead of complaining and resorting to time saving devices and enjoy a fresh and a healthy meal.
  3. dear friends I need your sincere opinion about my essay. I agree that television; though a great invention of the century has not been considered a friend of the family. Television has made the whole world a small global village. We know what is going on in the world at the click of a button. News, entertainment, information, and name it and you can find it on TV. There are many reasons TV is blamed for non – communication among family members. Before television came into our lives we all used to sit around the kitchen table and talk, Discuss etc. But, come TV and we don’t even eat together as we all have our own show Slots. In families with babies TV has become the baby sitter, as it is easy for both moms and dads to finish their chores while sesame street characters entertain the baby. Parents use TV viewing as an incentive, I am an example for this, my 7yrear old daughter hates milk and she is under weight so, just so that she drinks her milk I switch on the TV so she drinks it without fusing. Today people are so busy they hardly socialize even if they meet say, at a business meet or party they end up talking about whats on the TV. Before what used to be family time has now become TV time. It has become a stress reliever to many. After a hard day of driving, working, shopping, etc people find it relaxing just to sit in front of an object that does not argue, discuss or set deadline. It may be so, but this “idiot box” is contributing to a lot of disease in children and adults. People just sit around watching TV, which is leading to obesity, heart and other related disease. The stress that can be relieved through walking or excising is being relieved by watching TV. Though TV can be blamed for lack of communication among family members, I feel it is not the only one to be blamed. I mean, no one is holding a gun over our head to watch TV, but since it is one thing people are not ready to give up it takes the blame.
  4. People work because they need money to live. what are some other reasons that people work. On the face of it, it looks like people seem to work only for money. We keep talking about insurance, buying automobile, house etc, so we assume we work for money. Who doesn’t want a house, car, good clothes etc. all these can be possible only with money.but I think money is only a major part of it. We work for a lot of other reasons; experience, kill time, exercise, knowledge, power, self-expression the list is long. Its hard to believe a scientist to work just for money, he cannot contain his innovative brain to stop working just because there is no money involved, or an artist, writer etc. Firstly, what ever be the reason human being cannot live without doing some kind of work. It is hard to believe people not being motivated to do some kind of work. During the early age, man worked or rather hunted only for food, later on slowly he started getting new ideas, methods and reasons to work. The reason was money, enjoyment, power or plain boredom. Some people work even after retiring from active service, even though they are not paid well as they do not want to miss out on the exercise, the activity associated with doing work. People want to age gracefully; the only way is to keep working, even if the only benefit is being active. While most of them work for money, there are many who work because they enjoy working. Few people though, work to serve people with handicaps, physical, mental or disease that render them immobile. For example Mother Teresa, who dedicated her entire life to care for the sick people in Calcutta, never did it for money. There are many others who do voluntary services in hospitals, schools and other charity organizations. They are not paid for these services, they do it because they like helping out. To sum up I strongly believe that people do not necessarily work only for money. It is one of the reasons in some cases the only reason.
