  1. ISA- I did not have the question types you mentioned earlier. There were NNT,Absolute risk reduction, confidence interval, pvalue, odds ratio question I came across and others were Meq, Mmole and dilutions .There isn't much given in any book about statistics.I goggled these above and read about them.TPN ,T1/2 ,Sodium equivalent those were asked in various formats. I would recommend that you try and google them, I am not sure if these topics are covered in Kaplan because I did not use that book.Rxprep book however has a small section on statistics that gives you a basic idea of the tests used in clinical trials. I hope this helps.Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck with you preparation.
  2. Hi, Thank you for your wishes.I graduated in 2000 so it's been 10 years since I was in touch with pharmacy.I had an alternative career that I was pursuing but then decided to give this a try. I had to study for 3 months during which I revised the APHA book 3 times. It's important to be able to identify drugs n interactions during the third revision.I would say it takes a minimum of 2 1/2 months to finish and revise including maths. Also everyone has their own speed .I read a lot so I was able to sit and study for 8-10 hours straight every day ,otherwise it might take some more time. I hope this helps. Let me know if there is any thing else. Good luck.
  3. Hi everyone, I just wanted to thank everyone in this forum for posting advice and suggestions and for answering my questions.I gave my exam last week and I have my results.I made it . The exam is not difficult rather tricky. While studying for it I used the APHA and Rx prep.both the books were very helpful. The interesting thing is that questions were from the hidden aspects of drugs and diseases.I mean how in the book there are these pages at the end of chapter that summarize and give tables about more uses of the drugs for eg. HIV has the page about alternative drugs used for PCP, histoplasmosis etc those kind.I didn't have questions on HIV or major diseases but the way the exam was set up was diseases that majority of people are aflicted with. Math and stats were tricky and I was stuck with the problems.I had a very hard time doing the maths problems not because they were very hard, but because I am poor at maths.I was scared i'd flunk because of maths but that is not the deciding factor I guess. One thing that I didn't find out until I was actually taking the exam was that on the patient profile there will be multiple labs taken for the patient and stuff written in notes at the end of profile, it's important to understand what those because questions like what happened on the labs for so n so date will be asked.it's important to know if there was a drug interaction or a toxicity or the treatment was working by looking at the labs of the asked date. I hope I don't confuse ppl here. Also I had stats calculations and inferences to be made from stats profile.these things you can only read about if you google the basic concepts used in clinical trials.Try to read about the what stats n analysis is used in clinical trials. APHA and Rx prep is sufficient .I also had langley 1500 questions CD n book but honestly the type of questions in that book were very difficult not directly realted to what is actually asked on NAPLEX. Also please focus more on drugs rather than disease state. Most of the questions are drug based.Pharmacology, dosage forms n side effects of major drugs n interactions should be known. There will be questions about drugs that you have never ever seen or heard atleast 5-6 I think every ones gets them. The best step to take is read all the answers, luckily you will see drugs or answers you already know about then it's easier to eliminate. If not please don't spend too long reading n re-reading it.If you don;t know it's not gonna suddenly come to you.guess n move on to questions you do know. I had 35 minutes left at the end of my exam.No matter what please don't leave any question un answered. If you run out of time guess guess guess n move on. I hope this will be helpful to you. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.I would love to help. Good luck. Naplexhigh. PS: My personal thanks to the administrators of this site. You guys n gals have done amazing job by putting up this site.Thank you all!!!
  4. A patient is receiving an IV infusion of 40 mg of aminophylline per hour. The physician wants to change to oral theophylline tablets with 85% bioavailability. What oral dose must the patient receive to provide about the same total daily dose of theophylline? A. 100 mg every 8 hours B. 200 mg every 8 hours C. 250 mg every 8 hours D. 300 mg every 8 hours E. 450 mg every 8 hours 40 mg (x) 0.8 = 32 mg Theo per hr 32 mg (x) 24 hrs = 768 mg Theo per day 768 (div by) 0.85 = 903 mg per day ( I don't understand the last part of dividing 768 by 0.85) can anyone please explain. Thanks
  5. Hi Everyone, I have a question regarding the addition of TPN substances.Phosphate goes first and calcium goes last.Vitamins go before dispensing or administering.Does this hold true for storage also? If I have to store a TPN bag then what should I not add or what sequence should I add the ingredients? I hope I don't sound too confusing here. Thanks for all those trying to help.
  6. Here the height of the person is 6.7 and the formula says 2.3 x ht in incehs over 5 feet. his height over five feet is 1feet and 7 inches. 1 feet = 12 inches + 7 inches = 19 inches. I hope this clears it.I had the same problem a while back and when i looked at it more closely i found the answer.
  7. Hi Everyone, I am going thro the Bipolar drugs chapter and I am a little confused about Drug of choice for Bipolar. Is it Lithium or Depakote? The book says Valproic acid is the fist line treatment for acute maniac episodes and also says Lithium is used to treat Bipolar. Can anyone clarify which would be the first drug of choice? Thanks in advance for your time. Naplexhigh.
  8. Hey Naplexsoon, Congratulations on your success. That must be a relief. Please share your preparation experience and exam experience with us. Enjoy the feeling of success!!!
  9. Hi, The proof of completed hours is a part of the link I am attaching below. You have to complete the form and get it signed by your perceptor. Applications - Florida Board of Pharmacy - Applicant Information go to foreign graduates bullet if you are a foreign graduate and fill the form.it has item number 3 page ,make two copies one for 500 hours one for 2800 hours and fill that. also you need to send the pharmacist application along with all the assignments.there is a instruction manual on the same page. download it and read, it should make things clear for you. I hope this helps
  10. Hi Xena, It's better to send the assignments as soon as the 500 hours are over because the board takes time to process and send the ATT (Authorization to test).I am attaching the link here Go to the foreign graduates bullet and the first form is the pharmacist examination application form. If you are a foreign graduate. Applications - Florida Board of Pharmacy - Applicant Information Read the instructions carefully and you will need a demand draft and recent passport pictures and copy of FPGEE and TOEFL scores. send everything with the assignments so it becomes easier for them also. If you are not planning to take the exam anytime soon then you can send everything late.It takes at least 10-15 days to get everything ready.I hope this helps. :)

Hi Sunny, I have been online all these days waiting for you to come online so we can discuss the chapters and the quiz.Seems like you are interested in forming another study group. Let me know if you want to do it on your own or you are still up for discussion.
  12. Hi, I see you have some difficulties with the online registration. There is NABP bulletin that guides the registration process. For the score transfer, when you are registering if you are interested that NAPB send your scores to other states except your primary state then you select the names of those states. If you are not sure there is a blank tab at the very beginning of drop down select that. At a later time if you wish to move to a different state you can request NABP to send your NAPLEX scores to that state. This is just an additional facility they provide if you want to move soon. I hope this helps. Let me know if there are any more questions. Good luck :)
  13. Hi Sunny, Thanks for your interest.I have also started the 7th edition AphA book.We can divide the chapters and can discuss bi weekly or weekly about the progress we have made. I have to clear a lot of basic concepts from Lippincott's pharmacology , but I am up for discussing whatever we study. We can also start with the 200 brand generic drugs and then quiz each other on them.Let me know your thoughts. If you want to do it on this portal or use yahoo or skype.
  14. Hi Friends, I am trying to form a study group for those interested in taking NAPLEX by november end. I prefer to discuss the topics, that way i can recall them better. If anyone in this area is interested to start please let me know. Please respond only if you are serious about it. We can then discuss where we start and and when we discuss. I will be studying from APHA , pharmacology by lippincott's and Rx prep course book. Thanks for your time. :)
  15. The set of instructions came wit the intern license . There are 6 core assignments with topics that you can discuss your personal experiences and every assignment comes with a Pharmacist approval form where the preceptor writes about your assignment. Apart from that you need to complete a Pharmacist examination form which is on the florida website with other documents required. For assignment with new drugs you can use the medication prescribing information leaflets that come attached to the drug bottles or go to drugs.com which has a tab for all new drugs and then get prescribing information online about them. I used my personal experience while completing the assignments. I hope this helps. :)
