  1. anyone went to this program or knows someone who is in? I really need and appreciate your advice!
  2. Got the email this afternoon. I am curious about the quality of the MA Economics program @ BU. I heard some people said it a really tough one, not easy to get a good grade at all. Is it a good preparation for future phd application? since the program is only 1 year, you have to finish in at most three semesters, the courses they require seem really intensive to finish in one year. I appreciate whatever helpful idea on helping me evaluate this program! Thx!!!
  3. thanks elliephant for your response! do you know anything about the lower level programs I mentioned above? like george washington, u conn, oregan, u illinois chicago, etc? Now I really want to focus my application work on those I am more likely to be accepted. thank you!
  4. Is it possible to get into a top 50's ma program?
  5. I don't need any financial aid, I just want to go to a program has quality as good as possible. Is your friend specially excel at something that the committee found interesting? Thanks for replying this thread.
  6. um columbia? because I really want to go to those two costal areas so I may not apply for many places in. what other programs are you applying? do you want to do phd in econ?
  7. Undergrad GPA: 2.78/4 Major: Math, 3.32/4; Economics: 2.93/4 GRE: v 720, q 750, aw 3.5 Courses: Calculus I (A), Cal II ©, Cal III (A), Linear Algebra(A), Differential equation(A-), Probability (B), Micro:B+, Macro: B, Econometrics: A, Money and banking: B+, other two: C. three recommenders, 1 math (A and B+ on his classes, knew me well), 2 econs (got A in one's class, got C on the other but she knew me well). schools intend to apply: western ontario, ubc, u toronto, u mich mae, nyu, u oregan, brandeis, lehigh, duke, syracuse, uc santa barbara, gwu, stony brook, rutgers, nc state, u conn, u colo-boulder (phd), u delaware, penn state (phd), uic. All these schools I will apply ma except those I have specially mentioned. Because of my catastrophic gpa, for schools who offer both ma and phd, i apply for their ma because I think if I do well in ma getting into their phd programs will be easier. I really need some advice on school choosing. Do I aim too high on these schools? which one has higher probability for me? I NEED your help! Please!!! I APPRECIATE you advice so much!!! [clap]
  8. my GPA is a disaster! general 2.78, I don't even want to calculate the major GPA when I saw my grades today. I got C on two econ classes this semester. my math major gpa is around 3.3, my GRE is above 1450+3.5. Now I think I only need to apply for master programs alone. so i will prefer schools who have both master and phd. it'll be easier to get into their phd program if you do well on the master, right? more information about me: I got A on econometrics, calculus 1&3 and linear algebra, A- on differential equation, B+ on micro, variable analysis and money & banking. B on probability & statistics. Which programs are more possible for me? some Canadian programs? I know it's funny and absolutely unconvincing for committee that I have ability and interest in graduate econ study, but I really do! So whoever has some advice for me, PLEASE! I APPRECIATE you advice very much. Thank you!!!
  9. I tooke the GRE today. v730, q750(Sucks! this really kills me!) what makes this more embarrassing is that i'm math and econ double major............ Do I need to retake the test if I apply for MS in Econ(or some applied econ ms programs)??? and I REALLY what to know how this horrible quantitative score will hurt my application for phd in the future? I am dreaming about those top school, a top 50 will be exceedingly exciting for me! Appreciate you idea! Happy Halloween!!!
  10. i know a girl from u wisconsin madison with only an ordinary gpa but excellent gre score (v+q:1520) and got all of the three schools' offer. i believe that you will be in their pool!
  11. you mean the class size is larger than the econ's as well? should i apply for Msc Econ or Msc fin&econ if i want to do a phd infinance in the future? is it quite different between them? Most of their programs are 1 yr long duration, which is absolutely financially attractive to me but I don't know if i can learn as much as going to a MS econ one here in the US( mostly at least 1.5 yr long) thank u!
  12. i went on their sites, they both require a 3.5/4 at least. it doesn't say it's a general gpa or a concentration one. I just want to know that if it indicates a general gpa and does it mean that even if you have a higher major gpa than your general (my general 2.92/4, major(math & econ) gpa:3.47/4), you are still not qualified? I just heard from someone else said that cuz they both have relatively larger size than a US programe's so they may not be that selective on applicants. is that true? Also, does quantitative on GRE 800 help a little bit on my application? do Msc Finance and Msc Econ have quite different standards for applicants? I really appreciate your idea!!:)
  13. ic, i think i will eventually go to a phd program. what do you think the phd programs in UK, european countries and in the States?
