  1. The stable functioning of a society depends upon the relatively long-term stability of the goals of its citizenry. This is clear from the fact that unless the majority of individuals have a predictable and enduring set of aspirations, it will be impossible for a legislature to craft laws that will augment satisfaction of its citizenry, and it is obvious that a society is stable only if its laws tend to increase the happiness of its citizens. The underlined part of the argument serves which one of the following roles in the argument? ¨ It is the conclusion of the argument. ¨ It is a support to the conclusion of the argument. ¨ It is a claim that must be refuted if the conclusion is to be validated. ¨ It is a natural corollary of the argument. ¨ It is used to illustrate the general principle that the argument presupposes. P.S. : the correct answer is b. Bt i dnt understand why. I was between b, d and e and i chose e. :-( pls help explain.
  2. are u interested for GMAT study together? I am done with most of the reading but am unable to get my score up. Just took a test today and scored a 43 in quant and 25 in verbal. My prob area has been verbal. I want to push my q score to 50 and verbal to 45. Looking for a study partner so that we can help each other in admision process and reading improvement. I feel study partner is a good idea since self study with past 4 tests has yielded not much help! Tests at home give good result, bt the actual test kills me! :-(

  7. Dear pals. this is a good question. bt a similar question was in manhattans CR book and according to them they were explaining a cause effect sequence. according to that d was correct. pls help. S
  8. Hey there Abhishek, thx for the reply. By i was thinking more in terms of y + 1/4 (since its 15 mins) and y + 1/6 since the second round is 10 mins its not y-5 because there is a 15 min and -5 from there would be 10 mins. Am i right in saying tht? S
  9. i wrote the gmat and was stuck on this question: this is quite similar but has been changed slightly. on May 15 Yusuf ran x miles in y hours and 15 mins. on June 16th Yusuf again ran the same distance for y hours and 5 mins less. what was the average speed on june 16th for yusuf? I have forgotten the answers. bt i think this question is a good stimulator. Probably it would be nice to see how best the question can be done. Thx S
