  1. Erm, my GPA in these courses are almost the same as my overall GPA (was never much of an exam taker, but I guess that is not an excuse). My GPA should be in the lower 80th percentile. Generally, the rule of thumb in our college was that if you manage to graduate on time with 7 (or more) on 10 then you have done a good job. IITs didn't have a degree in economics earlier but they introduced a Masters in Economics course (5 years duration) in the same year that I had joined. The number of students in this program was quite less and I don't think any of my batchmates opted for PhDs. They are happy with the Investment Banking and Finance placements. Generally students with very high GPAs don't face problems getting into idiosyncratic PhD programs but there have been exceptions too. I can get one good LoR from my Master's thesis guide (Chemistry) which can do well to lend some credibility to my abilities to pursue research. Then my Game Theory professor was quite happy with my performance in his course in terms of my grasp of the subject and analytical skills (though I could manage just a C as the final grade, thanks again to my apathy towards exams) and I think he would not mind giving me a decent LoR. In fact I still discuss things with him and he has said that he would be happy to take me as a research assistant. I can get one more decent LoR from my Strategic Decision Analysis professor (managed a B in his course). Should this be enough?
  2. My AW score is 6.0 but I was under the misapprehension that it won't matter much. Thanks so much for your suggestions, I would definitely give them a look. Meanwhile, I am reading as much as I can and trying to get into the depths of various sub-fields and already am realising that my interests are as shifty as a dragster's gear lever.
  3. Thank you very much enginecon and thewhiterabbit. Your replies kind of rekindled what might be called a dying hope :)
  4. Thanks BigPink. That gives me some more material to chew on.
  5. Hi I am a student from India, who graduated with Masters in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (Ranked 1 in India for Science undergrads, recognized worldwide) with overall CGPA of 2.88/4 (not exactly impressive). During my 5 years of education, along with several Chemistry courses I have completed the following, what I feel should be relevant, Mathematics, Business and Humanities courses Mathematics - Linear Algebra - Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations - Advanced Computational Methods Economics - Microeconomics I - Introduction to Game Theory Humanities - Sociology: Industrial Sociology - Psychology: Social Cognition - Philosophy: Introduction to Logic Business - Strategic Decision Analysis I started working with a consultancy right after college and was hired as Associate in Business Modeling. We advise clients on sustainable business models. It was during my stint here that I came to know about Complexity Economics and Behavioral Economics in details and given whatever little background I have in Game theory and Strategic Decision Analysis, I really developed an interest in Evolutionary Game Theory. I have independently been reading up on Mathematical Modeling, Probability and Statistics, Stochastic Processes, Macroeconomics et al and would really like to pursue doctoral research concentrated on "Redefining Economic Identifiers for a Sustainable Global Economy" or "Alternate Principles of Rationality". My GRE score is 1570 (800Q, 770V) and TOEFL iBT score is 115. I would be highly grateful if someone could tell me how to best proceed from here and what universities would be interested in granting PhD in Behavioral Economics to (what seems to be) a maverick. Much Appreciated. Regards
