  1. Knowledge is crucial to doing well in the world. Several examples from history and public figures prove that my viewpoint is legitimate. Bill Gates, an educated business magnate, used his life long computer skills to start his own business. In August 1975, Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard. The tuition there was way too high and he was having trouble finding work. Furthermore, he decided to move back with his parents in Seattle Washington and start his very own small business with fellow college drop out Paul Allen. At first, his business (now called Microsoft) was only selling BASIC interpreters, a good but not very lucrative business. The company's success happened when he and Allen sold their MS-DOS operating system to IBM. The sell was the inception of Bill Gate's success and fame which began as a hobby as a kid in the 1960s. Thus, Bill Gates past knowledge in computers allowed him to start his own business which has made his life successful. In the “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Eqaunio by Olaudah Equanio himself, Olaudah is sold to a Quaker who wants to give him knowledge to improve his life. During the 1700s, Olaudah Equanio was an African slave boy. He had already been bought by two slaves owners. The third and last was Robert King--- a Quaker from Rhode Island who traded often in the Caribbean. Furthermore, when he first bought Equanio he immediately wanted to improve his life. Something about him inspired him to do so. Over the next decade, Equanio was taught how to read, write, love Christ, and how to run a plantation by Robert himself. As a result, Olaudah bought his freedom at twenty-one for twenty-four dollars. He later traveled the world and augmented the abolitionist movement in Britain with his infamous autobiography. Thus, Olaudah's later success in life was due to the knowledge given by Robert King. In the autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, Malcolm is given advice that helps him out in life. During his decade prison sentence at Charleston county prison, Malcolm Little was renown for abhorring learning. Ever since the eighth grade, he couldn't stand reading a book. However, fellow inmate and friend John Elton sought out to help Little. Being a self educated man, John made a suggestion to Little to educate himself for the rest of his sentence in prison. Bored with his marginal life, Little spent a lot of time in the prison library reading though dictionaries and text book covering numerous topics. At the end of his sentence, Malcolm Little could strike up a well versed conversation and knew over 10,000 words. Thus, knowledge shaded Malcolm Little into a better man which made him do well in the world. After a critical analysis of Malcolm, Olaudah, and Bill Gates, knowledge is indeed critical to doing well in the world. Without knowledge, these men would have been nothing. :grad:
