I am an econ major who just finished junior year. The past 3 years I've taken a very wide range of classes because I did not think I wanted to go to graduate school in economics. However, last semester I really enjoyed a developmental economics class and am seriously considering going to grad school in economics(probably an ARE school) or public policy, my top choice would be Berkeleys ARE, but top Pub pol programs and other are programs or regular econ programs are also options.
My goal is to be able to consult in developing countries for NGOs and I would love to be able to do this while being a professor.
My main problem is I have only taken math up to calc 3 (A minus) and one basic statsitcs/probability class (A) and one econometrics class (B+). In addition I have not done any substantial research. I have done two 20 page papers but neither are published and both are literature reviews, so not exactly groundbreaking research. Although I plan on writing a thesis next year
So my question is do I have a shot at any PHD programs? Right now it seems like I do not have a shot at a top econ program, and I've been having difficulty finding admissions statistics for ARE or pub pol programs.
And if I do not have a shot what are good masters programs to do, right now Im looking at UT, Duke, and cornell's dyson. Do I have a chance at getting in to these or any of the good UK ones? And are there other ones I should be looking at?
My total gpa is a 3.7 from Duke and I have not taken the GRE yet, although I typically do well on standardized tests.
Thanks a lot and let me know if theres anything else I need to add
