  1. Hi all, I know, nowadays, lots of math professors do research in finance, too. What would be the differences between the finance research in a finance department and a math department? Thanks a lot!
  2. Why is it that the job market is very tough for theorists? Is it because oversupply or short of demand? Can you explain more shootermcgavin7? Thanks a lot!
  3. Hey frayed! Thanks for your advice. Do you by any chance know any good authors in asset pricing? I am also interested in credit market models. :)
  4. I appreciate your suggestion; but it does not answer my questions directly. I think it will be more helpful if you can be more specific in regard to the aspects that differentiate the finance PhD programs at Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Chicago and NYU. In particular, I am interested in which ones do more finance theory. I am considering applying at most 3 out of the 5 schools. Thanks a lot!
  5. Yes. I am pretty sure I want to do theory. I come from a very quantitative background. It is the underlying stochastic processes of financial theory that attract me. I did do some research on Stanford's finance doctoral program and I like it very much. However, I'm not quite sure how things differ from Stanford at other universities like Chicago, MIT, Harvard and NYU. I would appreciate any input that you might have on the programs at these 5 universities.
  6. Does anyone know which Finance PhD programs involve more theory in asset pricing? Thanks!
  7. Does anyone know which Finance PhD programs are more theoretical in asset pricing? Thanks!
