  1. I'm kind of facing a decision between levels of prestige,so I'll ask you: how different is the prestige of Iowa State U compared to U of Pittsburgh (in terms of general economics, not ARE)?
  2. I talked with Prof. Walsh too and he told me the exact same thing. As to the funding, I do not consider attending Pitt without funding. The pressure in the first year will be big enough without the money worries.
  3. Thank you synthxdill. I tend to agree with you. I have two more questions, if you don't mind. Which school are you going to attend? And do you think there's a big difference in overall quality between ISU and Pitt?
  4. Dear TMers, I've been accepted at both ISU ($1,650/month) and Pittsburgh (w/l for funding). As of now, I plan on going to ISU. What do you think I should do if I eventually get funding from Pitt? I have fairly broad interests (experimental/behavioral, game theory/IO, ARE, macro/development) and my career goal is a job in academia, either on the US, Europe or Asia. Thank you for the help.
  5. Thank you gradeeconmist. This list is a little old, though. I've just e-mailed them asking for a more recent placement record.
  6. Hi everyone, I've just been accepted to ISU and I'm considering it very seriously. Alas, I can't find a list of their recent placements? Does anyone know where to find it? Thank you very much.
  7. Institution: Iowa State Program: Economics PhD Decision: Accepted Funding: Full tuition and 15k Notification date: 3/26/2013 Notified through: Email from grad coordinator Posted on GC: No Comments: Very excited
  8. tm_guru, I was making a conservative average of my two scores. I'll most probably skip the GRE and focus on my RA job and my grad analysis.
  9. Maybe you've reached an uncommon result from a bunch of economists: consensus. The only thing that worries me is the possibility of all other applicant who will compete with me apply with 166+ in the new test, while mine is equivalent to a 164...
  10. Hi ecoetz, Thank you for your answer. This next year I'll work as an RA with a well known theory professor and take a couple of grad math courses. I've already discussed these topics with fellow TMers. This time is just this GRE deicision that is on my head...
  11. Hi everyone, I applied to 12 places last year and received just two, unfunded offers. I'll try again this year. I took the GRE two times (Q780 and Q800). Do you think I should do the new version of the GRE? I think I can place at least a 167+... Thanks you for your opinions.
  12. Just one question: did you manage to go to the PhD right after the end of your MSc or did you have to wait one more year to apply?
  13. Oleador, I applied mainly to top30 (and just one top10, just in case). I also tried some schools in the top50-60 range. Eventually, I was waitlisted at Rochester and waitlisted for funding at Pitt (this one gave me a very high probability of funding and later said I would not be able to receive it due to an unusual acceptance rate). I get your point and this is probably true. I'm tending to believe that, at this point, two good grades at advanced math courses would be sufficient to put me in a top50 place in the US. Do you concur?
  14. Economists, let me be a little more specific about my situation: I'm already finishing my master's in Brazil. Not from a top school, but certainly a top5. I couldn't get into a top masters due to a relatively weak undergraduate experience. Our placement record is far from stellar, more so because not many students choose to do a PhD abroad, but recent placements include UIUC and Cambridge. Having said that, my two options are really spending the next year at Barcelona or waiting to apply again next year.
