  1. I have no idea about the exam and exam format Could anyone please guide me ?
  2. Don't give up my friend Let this exam inform you the point you are standing at & the point you want to reach to help you to enhance your defects effectively. Here are some tips: Reading Try to know new vocab. (ebooks do this job as "400 words for toefl" or "504 words for toefl"). Read a lot on daily basis (NY times - Yahoo News - Wikipedia) and try to summarize in your mind what you read & understand. Choose best strategy to answer reading questions on the exam within the time limit (e.g. don't read the passage word by word, just do a scan by your eyes then the paragraphs related to questions will appear again). Train yourself to answer a lot of summarizing questions. (Last question on each reading). Listening Listen a lot and try to understand what you understand. Listen to NPR : National Public Radio : News & Analysis, World, US, Music & Arts : NPR very good it also has scripts of the podcasts. (so you can read what your hear or to check on your listening) Train yourself to take notes effectively. Speaking check videos on youtube esp. Notfulldotcom Train yourself & record your speakings & try to hear a model answer to enhance yours. Writing Practice Pratice Practice See notefull videos I hope these help you. don't look behind & step forward.
  3. You may get 2.5 - 4 In my first integrated essay I got 4.5 / 5 However, in independent essay I got 3.5 / 5 (because, my supporting examples were somewhat indirect, therefore the rater said that my examples were hard to understand ... my advice don't think deep just be superficial & direct so that your writing can be understood from first reading.
  4. At first I took 3 blank pages. During listening I filled about 2 papers. After the rest they replaced the 2 filled papers by 2 blank pages. You can put your speaking templates during the instructions of speaking section (It takes time until the narrator says all the instructions. This time will be sufficient to write down your templates.) At my case, the admin said to me when you become ready click "continue" button to proceed to speaking section, so I had time to write down my templates even before starting the speaking question, but I got bored during instructions (actually, there wasn't a "skip" button :dejected: ).
  5. I took the test at 29 October 2011 & I get results today 7 Nov. 2011 Score: 90 R 24 L 22 S 22 W 22 I prepared for 3 weeks before the test (about 1-5 hrs daily depending upon my free time) Reading: 1st 3 passages were ok, but the next 2 were boring & didn't think much while I was choosing answers. Advice: Don't get bored quickly try to concentrate & bee keen to get high score. Listening: During listening I understood 95% of the dialogues & lectures. However, the questions were bit difficult & somewhat unrelated directly to the listening. I get bored & didn't pay much attention to my answers (I chose the 1st answer my eyes pick.) Advice: You must develop your listening by listening to English radio channels (e.g. http://www.npr.org very useful because it has scripts) (Actually I didn't have enough time to do so.) Train yourself to take notes efficiently. Train yourself to predict the questions during listening. Again, don't get bored quickly be patient. Speaking: The problem I was worried & anxious. Sometimes, I finished before time. Advice: Be calm, you can do it. Notefull Videos helped me a lot (Very very important videos). During break, I told Admin that I want to enter the exam room last one until I finish my Nescafe (This actually in order to not be disturbed by entrance of other examinees.) I didn't disturbed by other examinees, as soon as I started my speaking questions I got concentrated in my task. You may trained by trying to speak in a noisy place. Writing: The questions were as those in the OG. 1st integrated task I got 4 - 5 (Good score because I followed template by Notefull) 2nd independent task I got 2.5 - 3.5 (because, I was having problem in structure & grammar (but I didn't have enough time to enhance it - Advice Know your writing level by writing essay and post here in the forum & it will be rated by experts as Tino. Assign enough time to prepare yourself. Actually I thoought I was good enough therefore, I started on preparing to writing section only 2 days before exam. But after posting an essay here, it was rated 2.5 - 3 and at this point I know I want time improve my defects. Thanks for Tino & NoteFull

  7. I'm not that professional, but I just have a little note about your writing, I see it is better to say the "article/author" instead of "the reading" & to say "professor/lecturer" instead of "the listening", I think now it looks more pro.
  8. Could you tell me the defects & how to improve score ?
  9. Test 2 - Essay 1 (Cambridge TOEFL iBT CD-Rom): Tidal power The articles states that tides can be used to generate electrical energy and author states that tidal power is non-polluting, renewable and cheap alternative for fossil fuel. However the professor critices Tidal power as it has many drawbacks. First disadvantage stated by the professor was the amount of energy generated by tidal power in relation to demands. The professor states that tidal power can supply electric energy for the regional use only not more. Second disadvantage that the professor states is detrimental effect on environment & the professor provides many aspects where environment is badly affected. For instance, The water quality is changed due to many reasons 1- change of water salinity as it mixed up with sea water 2- sediments mixed-up with water, consequently, vegetation & the local wildlife as fishes & birds will be affected. Another example where environment affected is that the dam interfere with migration cycle of fishes as they can't pass the barrage. The third disadvantage explained by professor is that the local economy is affected as areas around rivers, the people there depend on fishing to gain money but after building a dam they can't go to open seas to fish. In conclusion, Even though tidal power is clean & cheap source of energy there are drawbacks must be put in consideration. word count 216
  10. Q.Childhood is the best time of a person's life. Agree or disagree? Some people think that childhood is the best time in their life, while others think the opposite. This is a controversial issue but a closer examination reveals that the happiest time of a person's life is his childhood and this for several reasons. One reason is that being a child I found that all people around me want me to be happy. For example, I remember that when I was 7 years old my uncle took me to the zoo every Friday besides that my mom & dad took me to cinema every Sunday. Furthermore, I received a lot of gifts & toys from people I knew & people I didn't know & I was asking why those people do that. It is clearly that all of them want me happy. on contrary now days when I become adult I found many people having evil spirits & don't want good things to be happened to me. Another reason is that when I were a child I didn't bear any kind of great responsibility. And this clearly due to that my parents took care of me. For example, when I was young my parents choose my clothes, cook my food, aid me in doing homework ...etc. I just want to play, laugh & have fun. The only responsibility that someone may carry when he was a child was studying & doing homework not more. On the other hand, once one becomes 18 years old he has to dig his own road in life. Perhaps the best reason is that being a child that I have no limitations & no one can blame me for anything. For instance, when I was 3 years old I was taking shower with girls. On the other hand I can't do this when I become adult. In summary, while there are arguments to be made about what is happiest time of a person's life, it is clear that the best times are those when I were young due to that all people around me want me be happy, no responsibilities & no limitations. 11. Test 1 - Essay 1 (Cambridge TOEFL iBT CD-Rom) The article states that rewarding system can increases work productivity & the author provides many supporting examples. However, the professor explain that the rewarding system can decreases the productivity & he refutes each of author's reasons. First, the reading claim that the technique to force workers and employees to work hard & consquently to improve their productivity is to reward them with money. However, professor explain that workers and employees may work hard not to improve the enterprise that they working for but to get paid, in other words, the employees & workers do that not because they love their work. Second, the reading assumes that giving promises for workers and employees with incentives will improve productivity. The professor refutes this point by saying that if the promise not achieved the reward in this case will converted into a punishment which means also if someone couldn't work more to any cause, he or she will be punished by not taking incentives as their colleagues. Finally, the reading neglect to talk about the status of relationship between employees and their supervisors under the system of rewarding. On the other hand, the professor accuses the rewarding system for being deteriorate the relationship between workers & their supervisors which is not in the favor of the enterprise & he explain this with an example for a worker having a problem but he don't tell his supervisor about this problem in order not to be under graded by his supervisor & conssequently deprived from reward.
