I'm in my first year of a top 30-40ish phd program (depending on who you talk to). I majored in math, and came in knowing practically no econ. As in, I had forgotten what elasticity was.
On the micro/macro midterms I just got back, I scored very slightly above the median on both.
On the one one hand, I'm happy I'm doing a tolerable job, but now I'm kind of depressed I didn't do better. Our classes include other management students (and women) and I feel like median is an inferior level of performance for a male econ phd student.
I know that last line will piss people off, but I'd like your thoughts nonetheless. Thanks.
