  1. How about grades if you don't mind me asking?
  2. Just to get a rough idea, for those of you already in PhD programs, how are you performing?
  3. I'm in my first year of a top 30-40ish phd program (depending on who you talk to). I majored in math, and came in knowing practically no econ. As in, I had forgotten what elasticity was. On the micro/macro midterms I just got back, I scored very slightly above the median on both. On the one one hand, I'm happy I'm doing a tolerable job, but now I'm kind of depressed I didn't do better. Our classes include other management students (and women) and I feel like median is an inferior level of performance for a male econ phd student. I know that last line will piss people off, but I'd like your thoughts nonetheless. Thanks. -tundrawolf
  4. Try Chicago, Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and Harvard. EDITED BY ERIN.
  5. Actually, the admit rate IS a useful fact. That's why practically every program tells you what it is in their FAQ. The ones who don't are usually embarrassed because it's too high.
  6. Also, does anybody have an idea as to how long it takes scores to "arrive" after I send them? You would think in 2011 that one just presses a button and the scores get there...
  7. Since admissions decisions are made in March, suppose that somebody views GRE scores online in early December, self reports these scores on the application, and then has ETS send scores (which wind up arriving "late") Do you think, as a practical matter, that these "late" scores will be ignored? Thanks, tundrawolf
  8. Rochester doesn't say a damn thing about their selectivity or what they look for in applicants. Anybody know their admit rate?
  9. When people here say top 20, does that mean US news?
  10. 1. How does its "rank" and placement compare with US programs? 2. What's the admit rate? 3. What is their funding like? Thanks so much.
  11. I hope that most places have it set up nice and easy where the professor can just upload a word document and be done with it, right?
  12. I wasn't able to ask them in person, so I e-mailed them several days ago. I'm getting a little nervous that 2 of them haven't e-mailed me back. Has this kind of thing every happened to anybody?
